It is with great sadness and broken heart that I share with you I send Izzy aka MDK to the Rainbow Bridge this morning at 11:22 am.

The pneumonia was making it difficult for her to breath. She was unable to walk more that a foot or two before stopping and laying down and then deep breathing with her mouth open. She had been on Zeniquin for a week with no improvement.

The other antibiotic to try were one I can't remember which was contraindicated due to her kidneys and Convenia, which I don't like and is also contraindicated for her kidneys. She was not a candidate to go under anesthesia for a lung lavage to determine what type of infection we were dealing with. He was quite sure she would not likely make it.

I could not continue to watch her struggle for every breath. She would just lay down with that forlorn look in her eyes as she concentrated on each breath, so I opted to set her free. I wanted to make that choice for her so we were surrounded by the clinic staff she knows and is comfortable with rather than end up in the emergency room with strangers. The AC told me, she would reach the new year, but that she would tell me after the new year when it was time.

As I spent those last minutes alone with her, waiting for the vet to come in...I could truly see her struggling for each breath and I knew for certain, this was the right thing to do.

She had a good life and I know in my heart of hearts I did everything I could for her and then some. More than most people (company here excluded of course) would have ever dreamed of...but my heart is broken.

I am so very sorry. Izzy is a beautiful girl an incredible name. Somehow, I like Izzy better! I often think the hardest thing we have to do is listen to what our kitties are telling us and have the courage to make what in undoubtedly, a painful decision. You listened to your girl. There is no greater act of love and caring.

Oh Janet I am so sorry for your loss. The hardest part of loving our little furbabies is knowing the day will inevitably come when God calls them home. All we can do is love them as much as we can when they are here with us. You surely did just that. And your final act of love was letting her go. Take comfort in that and know she is now on the other side waiting for the day when you can be together again. God Bless.

 

I'm so sorry for your loss - it's so difficult to see them struggle for breath and not be able to help them -you certainly gave her the wonderful gift of relief when you let her go. She left knowing love - but they leave such a hole in our lives and hearts.
