12/26/2014 Tawny has crossed the Rainbow Bridge

It is with great and intense sadness that I post this post. Tawny passed away just after midnight.

She was in the ER.

Wednesday night when I got home from work she didn't want to eat. I assist fed her all night but by morning she was hiding and weak and lethargic. So off to the ER vet in Mandeville (where they saved her before a few years ago) we went. She was in critical condition by the time we got there early yesterday morning (it's about 50 miles). They triage'd her and she had to be hospitalized. At about 5 p.m. they said she had stabilized and that she was sleeping peacefully.

The first call from the vet came in at 12:06 a.m., the next at 12:08, the final at 12:38. I don't have a landline anymore and since I live waaaaaaay out in the woods and I have an antique cell phone it doesn't always ring and even the voicemails don't always get delivered for hours, sometimes days. I woke up about 3:45 a.m. (just a few minutes ago) and just as I started pushing buttons on my phone to call them & check on her it showed that I had 2 messages--the vet had called & left messages just after midnight that she really needed to talk to me. I knew what that meant and of course I called right away.

She said Tawny had gone into cardiac arrest just after midnight and did not respond to anything they did, but that her passing was very peaceful.

I am so, so sorry. I remember when Tawny came to live with you and all of the struggles, hospitalizations, etc. to keep her out of DKA. I even remember telling you to feed her a hot fudge sundae if that's what it took to get the calories into her. You both fought very, very hard. Your Christmas angel has gained her wings.

Fly free Tawny and land softly. Tink will be there at the Bridge to meet you and with many of our LL kitties, will keep you safe until you are reunited with the one you love best.

Aww, Desi, I'm sorry. Tawny was so fortunate that you gave her such a wonderful home. You and Tawny went through some very intense and difficult times when she was so sick but you saved her.
