Just got back from the specialist.

He doesn’t think its cancer - it looks more like she cut her underside of her tongue on something (probably her favourite string toy) as he can see an inflamed horizontal laceration. It still could have cancer underneath and that got inflamed somehow. But he did say if it was cancer, given its location there is nothing we could do anyway.

Sent us home with anti inflammatory meds and told us to get her checked again in a few weeks just to be sure.

    Toy has been confiscated.

Thanks for all your hugs and prayers - they worked!! Please keep her in your prayers though for the next few weeks just in case!

    Wendy

That is good to hear! Bad for the toy, it makes you wonder if we need to be more careful with what we allow our kitties to play with. Crystal seems to make her own fun and sometimes I can't control what she plays with. It makes me want to pay a bit more attention.

The specialist showed it to the trauma specialist and he is in agreement that the laceration looks like an injury and not the typical cauliflower cancer. However my regular vet is still suspicious. So we aren't out of the woods yet but it gives me some hope... Might be my imagination but she already seems a little better today. saw her cleaning today and hadn't seen that in a few days..

I hope and pray that the specialists are right. I'd think they'd know better than a general vet. The toy looks like it's made of boucle (or however you spell it) yarn. The nubs on that stuff can definitely slice.

A little optimistic story to encourage you: Punkin had a growth in his mouth that sprang from the outside of the gum/inner cheek pocket area. We were all pretty positive it was squamous cell cancer, which is typical in mouth cancers. We weren't going to do anything about it because he had so many, many problems, but it grew rapidly to the point where he was starting to bite it when he ate. The blood tipped me over the edge, and we took him to our local university veterinary hospital, they operated and removed it. No cancer cells - everything was just inflammatory cells. The little growth looked like a weird corkscrew/mushroom type of growth, but they said it could've just come from something as simple as a splinter.

I hope that it's just a cut and nothing more for you. Sending all of my best "it's just a cut" vibes to Cookie. :bighug:
