Hello, my L&LL friends! :bighug: I think the last time I popped in my newest little guy, Max was, well, little (about 3 mos.), and new to my life (he adopted me in early January). He is now about 11 lbs and is quite a character. As a matter of fact, today is his first birthday!
    IMG_0170.JPG

It has been so fun having a young, active furkiddo in the house. I have forgotten what it's like to be around a kitten -- it's been about 18 years since I've lived with a kitten (And back then, there were 2 to keep each other busy, Ripley and her sis Lucy)! Max definitely keeps us busy. He is smart and adventurous.
    IMG_9416.JPG
Max on one of his Ikea wall shelves (yes, our house is now owned by Max)

A few of Max's favorite things:

Food. Cat food, dog food, people food. He wants what we're having. Always. And because of Max we now have child locks on all of our kitchen cupboards. o_O A couple of common phrases said around here are, "Max, get out of the fridge!" and "Max, get out of the microwave!" o_O
    IMG_8966.JPG
    What's cookin?

Straws. He is obsessed with straws. He loves to fetch them and carry them from room to room. We have found several stashes of straws around the house (we are guilty of using them to get him 'out of our hair' from time to time. We just toss a straw on the floor, and playtime is ON!)
    IMG_9395.JPG

Max's room. Yes, you read that correctly: Max has his own room (& we live in a 2 BR house!). We have to keep him in his room when anyone else is eating, and when we're gone during the day. We can't trust this mischievous little guy ~ and I'm sure our old girl Smokey doesn't mind the break from playful Max. Max doesn't seem to mind hanging out in his room; after all, it's filled with lots of his toys, cat beds, and nooks and crannies for him to explore.

Another favorite of his is our dog Marley. Max LOVES Marley. He often snuggles with our gentle giant; Marley is so sweet -- he doesn't seem to mind it when Max nibbles on his ears, lips, tail, paws...
    IMG_8405.JPG

Despite Max being playful, ambitious, curious, persistent, (basically a kitten), he does have his sweet moments. They most often occur between 1am and 3 am : he likes to get kisses on his face, so I am often awoken by a cold little nose tapping my face, followed by purrs and snuggles (which I don't mind a bit -- and since Max loves me more than DH, DH doesn't mind that Max comes to me instead of him ;)). I used to wake up to get a midnight test from Ripley -- and although she crossed the bridge in Dec 2014, I haven't been able to sleep the whole night through anyway.

Ok, so this was more about Max than me. Is is obvious I'm sort of smitten with the little boy?? :p
All is good -- still teaching preschool & kindergarten (and still loving it!), still gardening, tending to our chickens, and occasionally hammocking. And last week I met Tricia, Cinco's super-mama!

I so miss posting a daily condo here -- but I do check in often. I am forever grateful to the people of FDMB. I learned so much during the 13 months I danced the FD dance with Ripley, and I am continuing to learn from the amazingly dedicated and loving people here. I especially love the Full Moon celebrations, when I can imagine all of our kitties partying and listening to the chorus of our beloved GAs; I'm sure Ripley contributes with her squawky voice. I sure do miss that girl.

This is truly is a special place, filled with special beans and special kitties.
I'm keeping all of you and your kitties and families in my thoughts and sending hugs. :bighug:

Aw, it is so great to hear from you - I was just thinking about you this morning. I have the note you sent with Trix's package last year ("Wishing Trixs good health" propped up inside my cat food cabinet so I see it every single day. I think she has felt the vibes from the sentiment and it is part of why she is doing so well :cat:!!

We miss sweet little Ripley, too...but we feel her beautiful presence here in L&LL. We know she is always close by!

And LOVE all the Max stories. The pic of him with the straw is classic! It's so funny when they get obsessed with something so odd and simple. Have you tried cutting up toilet paper tubes for him? I remember Ripley wearing the rings on her ears...I bet Max would have a ball chasing them, though! What a character is right!!!

And I'm glad all is well with YOU, too! Please continue to keep us posted!

    Thanks for the visits! :):):)

Max celebrated his birthday as a kitten should: I put lots of paper grocery bags around the house, and he had a blast zooming from bag to bag! And his dinner tonight had a straw -- he ate his food then promptly played with the straw.

@Amy&TrixieCat That is so sweet that you still have the note from Ripples. Truly warms my heart! And those cut up paper tubes -- aka The Best Cat Toy Ever! -- Max got an abundance of them tossed among the paper bags this morning. He loves those! Which kitty wouldn't? I forgot about Ripley wearing them... what a fashionable girl she was!

Hi, @carfurby ! Max is definitely NOT a hat-wearing kitty -- when I first brought him home, I tried to put one of Ripley's hats on him and he immediately shook it off and then ran away with it . Can't blame me for trying, right? (Ripley's hats are now safely tucked away in a cabinet, behind glass doors. :)) But that's ok -- it was one of Ripley's special heart-warming quirks. :)

@Michelle and Mannie (GA), Hi! Funny you should bring up Lola: there's so much about Max's energy and antics that make me think of her! Like the time I found Max sitting on top of a door, or when he managed to squeeze himself into the wine rack, and the fact that all of my houseplants have been relocated to my classroom... o_O

@Sienne and Gabby smiles and laughter are quite abundant around here, thanks to Max. (As well as brooms and dustpans, paper towels on hand, etc...) Thank you for the visit! :)

Hello, @Melissa & Tarragon -- that's so kind of you to watch the 'grand-kitten!' I can imagine the thoughts running through T's and Charlie's minds. Max often visits my parents (he LOVES sitting in their windows and watching all the birds around the feeders, something we don't have here) and my mom always has to 'prep' the house to get it ready for our rascal.

@Ann & Tess. He keeps us smiling. And occasionally gasping. Maybe a little swearing, too...:p

Newbie to the FDMB but delighted to hear your story. Coral Started Day 2 of her OJT Trial. This group is amazing. Love your pics. I'm going to try the straw trick. Our girls love to play with the wadded up shopping lists, scampering across the floor.
Glad to make your acquaintance! Kathe and the Girls.

Hi Josie! So glad you posted. As we discussed, we all like to hear how our "old" members are doing! Love the pics and descriptions of Max's antics! Kittens are so much fun, when they aren't driving you insane (and even when they are).

@Tricia & Cinco Thanks for talking me into posting a catch-up condo. :):):) I can't wait to plan a lunch date... when things "calm down" a bit for you... :bighug: Thinking about you and your kiddos!

@rhiannon and shadow (GA) Rhiannon, straws are the bees knees in my house -- I'm so glad they're popular in yours, too!

I just popped on for the first time in months too. So happy to see this update from you. Sounds like my house. I finally settled on the name Jinx for my new little (ahem, demon) guy. When he's not being all lovey dovey and wooing me into loving him beyond measure he is basically destroying my house. His favorite thing to attack, my iPad and my down comforter. Ever give any thought to how many feathers exist inside of a down comforter? Trust me, you don't want to know! There isn't a surface in my house that doesn't have some scar from him in some way shape or form. He gets scolded, and then looks at me with his cute little face and all is forgiven. From the second I met him, I was TOAST. I mistakenly will call him Tiki all the time. I feel like every time I call him Tiki it must be a sign from Tiki from above, just stopping in to say hi. Bodhi and Jinx have become good friends, Jinx being more into Bodhi than Bodhi is into Jinx. Jinx even went on his first road trip to visit my parents on Cape Cod a few weeks ago. He never made ONE peep the whole way there and traveled like a seasoned champ. As soon as we arrived he acted as if he had lived there his whole life. My parents' home is all open with posts and beams and was a complete jungle gym for Jinx. He was in heaven. Mom was happy cuz he got into all the corners that are too hard to reach and cleared out all the cobwebs. They also have 2 English pointers that he quickly tamed with his kitty charms. They are both white so when he wasn't covered in cobwebs he was covered in white dog hair. He was dubbed "Swiffer" throughout our stay. I thought be might be all depressed upon our return as my apartment isn't half as cool as Mom's house, but he just rolled with it and settled back into our normal routine without any issue. He is such a sweet little cat. Wish we lived closer, we could fix Max and Jinx up for a play date and let them run off some kitty energy. I've often thought about getting him a playmate to save my house and things from further destruction, but haven't been brave enough to officially take that plunge. One secret weapon I found are cans of condensed air (like the kind you would get to clean a keyboard). In fear of making him mean, I chose these over a water bottle. They make a ton of noise that he doesn't like and he doesn't like that cold air on his paws if he gets too close. Usually my rings clanging against the metal container is enough to make him run and STOP whatever naughtiness he is into. $8 for 2 cans at Target.

The pic (if I did it right) is what happens when you forget to hide the paper towels in the cupboard before heading to bed. And this was only half of it, I couldn't get the WHOLE mess in one pic! LOL
He is in the background, on the counter with the look of, "Who, ME???" on his face. 20150519_083514.jpg

Hello to everyone else! I hope this note finds you all happy and well!!!!

Thanks for the update. Max is really something. :cat: :cat: :cat:

    As is Jinx! ^

I too still have the beautiful card you included with Chip's package. Don't want to *jinx* it but Chip is doing well and having much health and happiness. And my "Max" is still a maniac for the shrimpies thanks to Auntie Josie. Everyone else (including Chip) likes them but Max goes mad.

Is the birthday boy *mad* for shrimpies? You have your hands full with such a bundle of energy!

For one of the upcoming updates how about pics of the chickens! I'd bet they have names and are dear pets. And if they're near home... surely Marley, Max and Smokey are keenly aware of them? o_O;)

@Tiger(GA) and Ruth Thanks for stopping by! I have soooo many cute pics of Max and Marley together, it was hard to decide! Hope you are well!

@Tonya and Tiki Tonya!!! Your Jinx (appropriate name!) and my Max must be related -- they sound like the same kitty! The condensed air can is a great idea. Max is quite the biter when he's playing/hungry/wants attention, and my preventative tactics are short-lived. He started playing with the streams of water coming from the squirt bottle, and my loud yelps & shrieks don't scare him anymore... It's so good to hear from you. Please give Jinx and Bodhi scritches for me!

@Dale 'n' Chip What a treat for you to pop in! I'm so glad to hear Chip is doing well. Max has not been introduced to shrimpies -- but he has plenty of other treats to enjoy. He definitely isn't picky, aka he's *mad* about any food! It seems as though Ripley's shrimpie monster legacy lives on in your Max... I'll have to remember to include pics of the chickens in the next update (I'll start by taking pics of them!). They do have names and distinct personalities, and, surprisingly, our cats and dog don't really pay attention to them even though the chickens can be seen from our kitchen windows.

@Marje and Gracie Auntie Marje! Every time I jump into a box my mama tells me she's gonna send me to your house! Still waiting for her to follow through, though... ;)

@Anne & Zener (GA) Thanks for the bday wishes for the "baby!" Hope you both are well. Scritches for Queen Tillie!

@Kim & Twice Hi, Kim!! I hope you are doing well. My heart is very full -- hearing from my FDMB friends is so wonderful!! :joyful:
