When Marje woke up this morning Gracie was obviously in pain walking slunk down with tail tucked. Right now they suspect trapped gas or possibly pancreatitis brought on by the procedure yesterday.

The power of this forum as well as the entire board is huge. Let's send all the positive thoughts, prayers, white light, healing vines... whatever you've got!

I'm sure Marje will update later...

Heard from Marje. The X-rays look like trapped gas but the vet is having a radiologist look at the films to confirm.

Thank you @Jill & Alex (GA) for posting this condo. Thank you, the rest of our dear L/L land friends for all your support and prayers and vines and white light. We got them all!

Gracie was doing fabulous yesterday and last night...eating like a powerhouse and she seemed to feel great. Mike tested and fed her at midnight and came to bed. I got up and did a +3 as she was coming down when he came to bed. Her BG was flat and she was in her "bunk bed" condo with Tobey below her. She seemed just fine. I heard "Candy" (her auto feeder) go off at 5:15 but didn't hear her snacking and I usually do. I looked...she wasn't there. I got up to search for her and found her hiding in the closet and Tobey was with her. I picked her up and she was like a dishrag. I took her over to Candy and she was absolutely not interested and when she walked, she had her tail tucked into her bottom and was kind of wobbly. I picked her up again...dish rag limp...took her into the kitchen so I could turn on the lights and look at her. I could tell in her eyes she was in pain. Of course, I immediately worried about bowel perforation but she wasn't vomiting and she had an excellent poo during the night. I knew she could have residual gas but wasn't taking any chances because she really seemed in pain. When i put her down, she would just lay flat, belly down on the floor and if she moved, she was hunkered way down with the tail tuck. Tobey stayed right with us.

Thankfully, Dr. L was reachable by text and Dr. B shortly after and they told me to get her to the ER (I was headed there anyway). We saw a wonderful ER vet. They did an X-ray and it did show gas in her bowel. The radiologist said he could not rule out pancreatitis but thought it was more consistent with gas based on her symptoms. The ER vet told me to be sure and get at least 1/2 dose of insulin in her because she was in the 300s and we don’t know if there could be anything brewing and she always worries about DKA with diabetic cats. She was just super. It’s been a long time since we needed an ER (since GA Teddi crossed) and this was the one we used. Plus GA Max, GA Gussie, and our GA Sitka had been to some of the specialty vets there. They all remembered me and flocked out to see and care for Gracie.

They gave her bupe and we got home at 10 a.m. She did not want to eat but since she was so high and it was so late past her shot (+15) and I knew I could syringe feed her, I gave her a full dose of insulin and a drop of R. I also gave her ondansetron and I gave her a tummy massage. She drank 4 tsp of organic homemade chicken bone broth and 30 mins later, ate all her food. I've been watching her closely and she's been resting comfortably. I just went to test her at +2 and feed again and she was laying on the flagstone on her back, belly up which is her comfy position. Tobey has been right by her side...he loves her so much. She also just ate another helping of food...licked the plate clean. In a while, I'll give her the second weekly B12 injection which will keep her appetite up. I’ll be with her every second today. If she’s still high at +10, I will shoot early.

I did have to laugh because, of course, it is Lupita Friday and when Lupita came in, I asked her to be very quiet because Gracie was sick. Of course, she had to go see her. Gracie lifted her sweet little head and mustered a tiny hissssssssssss just to let Lupita know that just because she didnt feel well didnt mean shed cut Lupita any slack. It was the tiniest of whispered hisses. The ER vet said she was a “stoic little baby girl”.

Just as a caveat, please do not follow my shooting example. For those who don’t know us, Gracie has been diabetic a long time and I have tons and tons of data on her so I feel comfortable shooting late and then early, if need be, if she’s eating well, and if the numbers are right to allow me to do so and I will be with her.

Thank you all again so much for all your prayers yesterday and today. Two nights of little rest and I’m headed for anywhere in the house where I can find some quiet to take a nap. Which might be a challenge with Lupita here ;););)

The Lupita hiss must have made you feel so much better :) did they give her anything for the gas? Tricia uses baby gas drops for Harvey when he has gas issues. I have also used them for Meg rabbit in the past (until I realised that cabbage leaves didn't agree with her, I haven't needed them since I stopped feeding those to her). The stuff I used is called Infacol. Sending fart vines for your precious LBG (this is a good opportunity for you Gracie, you can pretend like you want to be friendly with Luputa and then let fly!) So cute how Tobey looked after her, what a loving bro :cat:

They told me to get baby gas drops for her but Dr. B said no. They have aluminum in them. She said to give her nux vomica homeopathic (which I have here) if Gracie didn't start eating and was still acting in pain. But she seemed better by the time we got home, that I held off. I think the massage they did there and what I did when we got home helped.

Thank you all so much. She's been much more like her normal self this afternoon. She's been a bit sleepy because of the bupe but when I take her food, she pops up, cleans her plate, bathes, and then goes back to sleep with her sweet bubby, Tobey, still right there. He's such a great little brother.

The vet recommended Little Tummys simethicone. That’s what Dr. B was worried with about the aluminum. I checked it and it didn’t have any but it has sucralose and gum. The sucralose is definitely a no-no for cats.

Thanks, Rhiannon...I also hope she continues to feel well. Tobey is now playing with the little balls you brought him...he’s addicted.

The gas drops I use are a generic by Equate. The active ingredient is simethicone, and the other ingredients are carboxymethylcellulose, sodium, citric acid, microcrystalline cellulose, PEG-40 monostearate, potassium sorbate, purified water, sodium benzoate, sorbitan monostearate and sorbitol. They were recommended by more than one vet. Seemed to help Harvey.
