Last condo

Hi everyone,
the last three days Cleo had very bad numbers and now an hour befor pm shot she has 46.
So I gave her a drop of honey and a meal of low carbs food. What should I do next? What about pm shot? If she is over 50 in two hours can I shot?

What do you think about her numbers? Today I gave a fat dose. Possible that this is the reason why she went low?

She could be reacting this quickly to the fat dose. And she could be breaking a bounce which will also provide some downward momentum. I'd go back to the even 3.0 unit dose.

I'd want her to be quite a bit above 50 in two hours after those carbs, before giving her a shot. Try getting a +11.5 test and post again.

 

She was 69 twenty minutes after +11. I'll take another test in a minute.

 

79 at nearly +12

 

Hi Delia,

Was the 79 at +12 about 45 minutes ago? That's not a huge climb and could very well be influenced by the drop of honey. Are you still stalling? Have you tested again?

 

Hi Jen, I've just tested and she is 80. +13 is in 15 minutes.

ETA: I'm still stalling.

 

Still not really climbing super fast. That 80 could still be influenced by the honey.

I think you have a few options, Delia.

One would be to continue to stall and see if she does start to rise. I'd say roughly 2 to 2.5 hours after honey, the effects of the honey should have worn off and you can see what her "true" number is.

You could skip or shoot a BCS dose.

Or, you could shoot the 3 and monitor very closely early in the cycle. If you do that, I'd suggest definitely getting +1, +2, and depending on the numbers, you may need to carb-load at the beginning of the cycle. I will be around to help if you decide to do that.

 

To add, scrolling back through her SS, it looks like she's a big fan of dipping below 50 right before shot time. That's fun, huh?

Thank you Jen, I can stall until +14, but not more. How can I be sure that the effect of the honey has worn off? Now two hours after honey have passed.

 

I don't think there's a 100% way to be sure; however the simple sugars like honey tend to kick in and wear off faster than food. From what I've seen in Eddie and other cats, "usually" it seems that karo or honey wears off within 1.5 to 2 hours.

 

So I could shoot, right?

 

I'd like to see Cleo higher, just to be certain that the honey's worn off...but how about a +13 and see where she's at. The 2 hours post honey *should* tell you if she's going to come back down.

Well, she's not coming back down, so that's good.

Whether to shoot the 3 or a BCS is going to be up to you and your comfort level. Either way, she very well could come back down because of the depot.

When I've had this issue with Eddie - low numbers right before shot time without a big rise - what I've done is to feed a higher carb food (like a higher low carb in the 8% range or medium carb in the 10% range) at PS and at +1 so there's a little extra carbs on board by the time the next shot onsets. *This is a tip meant for Delia only*

I think is ok, I have a 8.6% carbs food. I give it at ps and +1 and shoot a 3u dose. I think she will go up after shot like she always do.
Do you think it's ok?
