I would like to thank everyone for your well wishes for DH. It has been a rather eventful week to say the least. As of today he remains in the ICU, still on a ventilator, but is doing better slowly. The surgery itself went well on Monday. Complications set in however by Tuesday and he has been dealing with those since Wednesday. We have had heart issues, rapid heart rate, and low BP. This began when they started to get him up and moving. When that occurred it also affected his respiration, ability to breathe and oxygenation level, so the ventilator was brought in to keep the lungs operating as they should and needed to be since they did remove one lung lobe. It appears that his heart is extremely sensitive to trauma, which in reality this surgery was. so... it is taking time to get used to things. They are making sure it remains steady while the lung area heals. He is, LOL, not a big fan of the ventilator, had a day where he "removed" (well yanked) out his feed line, meds line, etc. Once he understood what was happening, he left all alone. And the pneumonia is back (it is a known complication for lung surgery), along with a secondary infection, and is on meds to deal with that. They have done a few broncs to remove the "gunk" and done an infusion type lung treatment, daily, to deal with the secretions created by the lungs attempt to deal after surgery. All that is improving. We had an issue with a malfunctioning epidural that is controlling his pain management. We suspect that contributed to some of the complications that developed when they tried to get him up and moving more, as their was little pain management on Tuesday, due to the malfunctioning epidural. It is now been corrected and under control. WOW, alot of side rails going on. As of last night though, the fever was gone, lungs are healthier, and the heart has maintained normal rhythm. He is resting alot, as expected, as he heals. He was more awake yesterday, and in possession of full faculties, and responsive. When talking with the ICU nurse this morning, he had a good night, no events, and things were/are steady. They hope to get the tubes out tomorrow. Paws crossed! he has an awesome surgeon, who has been by daily to check on him. My hat goes off to the ICU nurses. wow, they are an incredible lot of caring people. Thank you to the ICU at Swedish Memorial Hospital! and thank you L&LL, for being the caring family that you are. Your vines and well wishes are more than appreciated! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope everyone has had a great week. We have been.... well, busy again!:joyful::cool: We have made every effort to maintain things as they should be for Nicholas and William, as they don't quite understand all that is going on with grandpa. They are handling the routine adjustments well, but do miss their grandpa too. We have not taken them to the hospital, as the ICU is no place for children, and I honestly believe that seeing him hooked up to all those tubes and machines would really freak them out. So.... not until he is out of ICU. In the meantime, we are back to our normal weekday routine for them, and busy rules once again. As I say every week, I just can't imagine not being on the go. ;) It keeps us out of trouble, and makes for great times! I often think back on the weeks happenings, and wonder how in the world did we do all that! I know I write this every week, but it was the same this past week. We have had a week of adventure, and fun, and crazy as we all deal with pending spring, and somewhat warmer days. And wet days. o_O :) We have been swimming, and to parks, and science centers. It has been a good week... :):)

Normalcy in Three Musketeerville! The kitties are all doing well, but wow do they ever miss papa bean. Bug is sleeping in his spot on the sofa, Vanessa has taken over his fleece blanket that he uses on the sofa, and Lola is watching all his usual haunts. They are dong OK with it all. I talk with them every day about papa, and assure them that things are OK. As I type this morning, Vanessa is camped out on my lap, purring away. :joyful:
I still need to make their appointments for an annual checkup, sometime in March. Vanessa isn't really due until summer, but will take her too, just to do a 6 month follow-up on BW as her kidney values were a little on the high end or normal last go around. I still need to think on how to incorporate some outdoor stuff for them all, a catio. A must do, especially for Lola! she still continues to be an escape artist.:rolleyes::joyful: I am grateful that they are doing so well.:smuggrin::smuggrin: All in all: Normalcy in MusketeerVille! :cat::cat::cat:
and once again, for old times sake, some Mannie photos, creations and enhancements by some very talented FDMB folks. THX MJ and CD!

Our adventures continue. It has indeed been a busy week, with all sorts of weather, and temperatures.:rolleyes:;) We were outside when we could, indoors when we couldn't. We made trips to the pools, parks and playgrounds, museums. And more pools. Nicholas and William asked to go to the Pacific Science Center this past week, rather than the aquarium, just because we haven't been there in ages. That was a great time, a day of science. We also visited some of the grounds at the Seattle center since the sun was out by then. While there we also took in an IMAX movie on the national parks. Both boys really liked that, and found places there that reminded them of our outdoor adventures. They were funny though. Both said they loved their day, but want to be back to the Aquarium this upcoming week, and the waterfront, and the Great Wheel. :);) This past week the time spent at Meadowdale Play Park was awesome, as it always is! The parks have been great! It was sunny that afternoon, but very wet too. It had been pouring that morning. The trail were a muddy mess, and I am grateful for boots.:joyful: There is a small meadow there that has a tendency when it rains to fill with water. Friday was no exception. It was akin to a lake. o_O Nicholas and William had such fun being boys and playing in it all. We waded through everything. Lots of water, TONS of MUD, lots of sticks and trail adventures. It has indeed been a good week for the boys, and their grammie! :joyful:

AWESOME WEEK in the pool! :joyful::smuggrin::) Nicholas and William continue to swim on their designated days, with a joint swim time, Brother's Swim, for them both on Wednesday Afternoons. It is one of my favorite times, as they really do have fun together in the pool. Nicholas has his me and grammie swim night on Friday night, followed by out traditional Friday night burger feast after we play and swim in the pool. Lessons continue to go well for Nicholas. On occasion they have the kids swim the length of the pool, not an easy task for a 5 year old, but he makes it! He is becoming quite the little swimmer. William is beginning to express interest in lessons, so maybe soon for him too, probably in September. Nicholas continues to be out underwater energizer fishie, and I often think he spends as much down below the surface as he does on top. I am beginning to see signs of this in William too, He now asks to jump in unassisted, and tries to swim on his own. He was so excited two weeks ago when he realized that he could stay on top of the water by himself. :joyful: I expect that soon they both will be chasing each other way down under. :) Happy times when that happens.:):):) We all love that joint time. SWIMMING RULES!!! As always, we are grateful for our time in the pool. It has all enabled to boys to explore anther aspect of growing up, one they really enjoy. It has just become the norm for us, we go each week, and just never tire of it. It proves to be such fun for both boys, and their excitement with it all has not wavered.
GO NICHOLAS! GO WILLIAM !! [IMG] [IMG]

For my own personal time, I continue to hike the local trails here when I can: Meadowdale, Picnic Point, Mesika, And the Big Gulch. It is great to have such good places to go to when time permits. Due to DH surgery, I was unable to get out on a hike, but did make do with local trails. I can grateful I can get those in. It has been such a good take care of me time. Once DH is back home, or hospital activities allow, I will try and get a hoke in. I am still hoping to get over them thar hills to Eastern Washington for some spring hiking. :)

Have a great Easter everyone! We have a family Easter Brunch set for this morning, along with an egg hunt for William and Nicholas. It should be an excellent start for today.

KITTIES!! Remember: BLUE, think GREEN :cat::cat::cat:

Thank you Sienne! You have such a caring heart, your wishes and vines are so appreciated!

@suki & crystal Morning Suki :coffee::coffee::coffee: I have to agree: what a trying time, such a roller coaster. But things are improving, so I expect in time all will be well. THX for the vines!

@Anne & Zener GA Morning Liz, and Anne :coffee::coffee::coffee: I have to admit it has been a trying week, and a very busy one. I find though that they boys give me the ground to deal with all the rest. We did our best to keep things normal for Nicholas and William. DH and I, and family, knew that going into this that the risk of complications was high, it is the nature of the surgery, We hoped it wouldn't be, but am glad that things are starting to come around.

@carfurby Morning Carla :coffee::coffee::coffee: Many thanks! I love those pictures of Mannie,e it reminds me so of the good old days when we posted his condo everyday. They were good times then. :) THX too on the boys swimming, they have such fun with it. it is nice to see them excel at something they like. THX on the vines for DH. So appreciated! We are all looking forward to brunch today, and Easter festivities!

    Hi Michelle,
Your DH is so strong! We are thinking about him, sending beautiful vines, and praying that he will continue his progress.
The week was so busy, but you managed to do EVERYTHING! I'm glad that the boys are enjoying all of their activities with their Grammie. Pictures are great! Also happy that you have been able to take some much needed time for yourself.

Love the Mannie pics--all are favorites of mine, too. It is very touching that Bug, Vanessa, and Lola are keeping the home fires burning for when their Papabean comes home.

Have a lovely Easter with the family.

    :bighug::bighug::bighug: And scritches,

Tons of vines for your DH. I remember you saying that Mannie was slow to process change, sounds like that's the way with the guys in your life. :bighug: Paws crossed he's on the upward slope. So appropriate to have those pics of Mannie in this condo. Scritches to the kitties for missing their daddy bean.

I am glad the boys are keeping you busy and that you getting some you time on the local trails. I totally agree on the ICU being no place for them. It's a stressful place enough for the grown ups.

Enjoy the day, looks like the promised rains were done early and we've got a great stretch of sun coming.

Happy Monday everyone! :coffee::coffee::coffee: I hope you all had a great Easter, and that your Monday is off to a good start. We did well yesterday, with a family brunch, and waster egg hunt for Nicholas and William. We really had a great time. My eldest son was brunch chef, cranking out some mighty fine, fluffy and delicious blueberry and banana pancakes. It was a nice afternoon. The sun came out, we went for a short walk, the boys found some bottles of bubble solution, so we blew bubbles too. Fun times. I spent the late afternoon and early evening at the hospital with my DMIL. Have a good Monday everyone! I will be visiting DH early today, so I can finally connect, directly, with his surgeon and physicians. Swimming with Nicholas this afternoon. Should be a good day today. :)

@MaineLove , @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) , @Wendy&Neko , @Tricia & Cinco & Harvey , @Linda and Bear Man , @Marje and Gracie , @Tiger(GA) and Ruth , @Amy&TrixieCat , @Melissa & Tarragon , @Vyktors Mum, @Ann & Maggie11 (GA) THANKS EVERYONE for the vines for DH. He is slowly getting better, and had a good day yesterday. There have been no more events, or additional complications. Temp remains normal, heart rhythms continue to be normal, with medications. The lungs are slowly improving, as is the pneumonia. he still has alot of gunk in there, so hopefully once the lungs heal more that will improve. They seem to feel that it will. He was still on the ventilator yesterday, but they have been trying him without it working, unknown to him, to see how he would respond. It seems it gives them a better picture if he doesn't know he's breathing on his own, and doesn't stress out about it. he did very well with that, and they hope to have him respirator free today. Paws crossed! They also removed the epidural yesterday, and he is receiving what pain meds are needed through injection. Due to alot of factors, steroids included his BG is up some, so they are also giving him R is needed. I had to smile at that, finally something I know something about. ;) so, kittens steps as Amy says, but he is improvising, looks better everyday. I will have to start calling him the King of Complications, the Champion of recovering from them.

@Ann & Maggie11 (GA) - I have to agree on that sunglasses pic of Mannie, the best ever. :cat:

@Vyktors Mum - I was elated when I realized I had a Mannie and the Roadster pic. YAY!

@Tiger(GA) and Ruth - THX. no on the food. He was until they had to out him on a respirator, so feeding tube for now. Once off the ventilator then they will begin to introduce liquids, followed by solids. We did an Easter Brunch at home, and my middle kidlet was the cook, he is good so I just give him by kitchen! :) LOL on Easter here and the weather! Seems that held true t course here yesterday, didn't it, a little bit of everything.

@Wendy&Neko LOL, and yes, slow sometimes rules here! Mannie was that way for sure, seems DH is too. Things are getting better. agreed on teh ICU and kids... their were two there last night wit another family. The noise alone wasn't too cool. They were good kids, but I keep wondering ho good it was for them to see such very ill people, most of whom are in far worst shape that DH.

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) yupp, it matters to DH,a dn the rest of us, that we try and maintain things for the boys as they always have been. Been able to do that with minimal upset. Better for them I think. It has taken some adjustment on my part, but all in all it has been manageable. Oh yes on the me time too. I make sure I get some of that, trails or whatever, so I can regroup and be ready for the next day. I thought so too on Bug, Lola and Vanessa.

THANK YOU all for the visits, well wishes and vines,. Time for me to head on out a make a hospital visit, hoping to connect directly with the surgeon and DRS rather than through messages. Gotta make those rounds. :)

Morning everyone! I wanted to give a quick update on DH. They were able to remove the ventilator yesterday. He tolerated that fairly well. He still has alot of "gunk" in the lungs, so they elected to give him respiratory support via a mask. SO much better than a tube down the throat. He was happy to see that leave. In the event has has trouble breathing they will reinstall the ventilator tube if needed. They also did another broncoscopy (sp!) yesterday, to clear out any secretion buildup. This is rather normal when recovering from lung surgery. The lungs will pump that stuff out as they heal. I was able to watch the procedure, via a camera and screen. That was way fascinating! How often do you get to see what the inside of a lung looks like. DH was awake for the procedure. wow on that. No word back yet on any of the pathology, and cultures of the "gunk", a given, as that takes time too. All in all, he is slowly revering. Thanks again for all your well wishes!

@Tricia & Cinco & Harvey Morning Tricia :coffee::coffee::coffee: Things are encouraging. We know this will take time, and are more than grateful that all the events and complications are turning around. There were so many, that we know if will all take time. THANKS for the vines! :)

Good Morning everyone! An update on DH: The removed the mask/respirator yesterday afternoon, and he how and Oxygen via a nose feed, no more mouth stuff, He was elated that the tubes was gone, the mask, and that he can once again speak. The plan was to elt that remain, and see how it goes. He says if he feels the need he will go back to teh mask. They also had him up and out of bed for a bit, a short assisted walk around the room. All in all, a better day yesterday, small kitten steps.

@Shoeskitty , @Tricia & Cinco & Harvey , @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) , @Sienne and Gabby (GA) , @carfurby THX guys for your thoughts and vines and well wishes, and for keeping us in your thoughts. He was so happy to be rid of the ventilator and the respirator. The joy of finally being able to speak, and communicate better with everyone, YAY!

@Sienne and Gabby (GA) Right you are on the gunk! That helps alot, and slowly that is getting better too: less of it. Thank you for thinking of us.

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) they did go well, he said it was great to be able to get out of bed for a short spell.

Good Morning everyone! More DH news. We took a step or two backwards yesterday. They elected to move him to the intermediate care floor, a step out of the ICU. They had him walking, sitting, and did Xrays etc. alot of stuff. He was worn out by 6PM, had some difficulty breathing, and needed additional respiratory support. His lungs look good, but still are healing. So, back on the ventilator in the wee hours of the morning last night. They say it is temporary for today, just to give him a break. Of course he was not happy to see that go back in, but knows too he needed it. All other vitals remain good. Still a ways to go... They expect to be off the ventilator sometime today. paws crossed!

@Tena and Curry(GA) , @Tricia & Cinco & Harvey , @Sienne and Gabby (GA) , @carfurby , @Shoeskitty , @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) , @Amy&TrixieCat THX guys! Although none of us were too thrilled to see the return of the ventilator, all of us know it won't be much past today. We still view all as progress, and are happy that they know when, as does he, he needs additional support. Overall his DRs are pleased with how tings are going, considering that he has had so many complications last week. We all know this will take time. Kitten steps! Sienne: that we have, as do his DRs and nursing staff. He knows it too and is willing to get up and move, he says it feels good to do so. Tena - LOVE that lion!

Sorry I haven't been able to visit much. Things are crazy here, and life outside the hospital remains busy. I've been making extra efforts to get "me time" too!

Sorry your DH had to go back on the ventilator, but it's great he was moving around and was moved to intermediate care. I hope once the ventilator comes out this time, it's out for good. You definitley need to have some me time. Don't worry about visiting. Sending prayers.

(((((Michelle)))) So many hugs for you and you DH--continuing to send my aabsolute strongest prayers and vines. I would have passed out watching them remove the ventilator, ack! But I am such a wimp.

Praying that DH can come off the ventilator for good soon, it will take time and rest--he has been through so much. And I'm glad to hear you are taking care of yourself too, I can't imagine anything more stressful than what you are dealing with. Love and hugs

Thanks Vanessa for the wonderful coffee this morning, Aunt Ruth needed it this morning!! You are the best Kitty Barista ever!

    Hi Michelle,
It's encouraging that your DH was moved to Intermediate Care. I guess all the activity may have been the reason for this slight setback. But one has to accept that there will be blips along the way to recovery. Sending many more healing vines for today and hoping that the ventilator can be removed again soon.

    Thinking of you all,

    Ella & Rusty

Morning everyone! :coffee::coffee::coffee: DH: Not too much new to report this morning. He spent a day yesterday, resting. They have kept him sedated so that he can do just that, rest. Vitals remain good. He is still on the ventilator, but they hope to wean him off of that today. There was another bronchoscopy yesterday morning, sent off as the others for analysis. I still haven't heard results on that. His surgeon was by yesterday and let him know that the surgery stuff looks good, and all should be well once his lungs believe that too. so yes, a bump in the road with the return the other morning to the ICU, but that is too be expected. On to another day, and good things! :)

On the home front, the boys and I spent the day yesterday at the Skykomish River, at the normal spot we visit. Weather was awesome: Sunny and mid 60's. The river was so pretty! It is still running a bit high, to be expected this time of the year. We built sand castles, mini "swimming pols" threw rocks, climbed boulders and explored. Nicholas and William wore their swim suits part of the time, played in the water a shore's edge. Per Nicholas, way too cold to be swimming. On that I have to agree. What a great day it was for them.

Kitties are doing well too, though they really miss their daddy bean, and having him home most of the day. When I get back to the house, they are all lined up on the stairs and then the meow chorus starts. I've been talking to them alot and trying to give as much scritches and pets and head butts as time allows. All three of them are sleeping in bed with me at night. They sure are enjoying all this sunshine and warm weather too. Windows open up in the evening, or when I am home, and their little noses can't get enough sniffs. When I come in and out of the house during the day I find them all sleeping on the front stairs, laying on the sunbeams. Life is good for them. :cat:

Have a great Friday everyone! The boys and are are off on another adventure, where to be determined. School day for Nicholas, swim morning for William, and then I expect a park adventure. Back to the hospital later this evening. My DMIL will be there for DH during part of the day.

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) , @Amy&TrixieCat , @Sienne and Gabby (GA) , @Tiger(GA) and Ruth , @carfurby Hi all! THX one again fore the vines. I really do appreciate you checking up on us. The DRs and nursing staff do believe that all the activity, the room move, the testing and procedures, the walking and moving around is the culprit for the setback. He was doing very well, mostly self sustained, alert and normal until all that work caught up with him. A bump in the road, but we hope that will turn around later today. They will try and remove the ventilator today. That alone will amke him much happier. ;)

@Sienne and Gabby (GA) Many thanks. It is never a surprise to me how supportive everyone is here, even when it isn't FD related. I had a few minutes last night to read Paula and Michael's condo, and was taken back by how many people were there for her. This group here is truly amazing.

@Tiger(GA) and Ruth LOL on the passing out. ;) I watched the bronc the other day, truly fascinating stuff! THX too on me. I think it is as important for me to take care of me, do what I normally do, it keeps me on an even keel, and still able to do what I need to do for DH. Family members have been great too, we alternate times there just so DH knows family is with him. He has such great ICU nurses too. Those people are truly amazing.

Sorry for the small setback with your DH. Hopefully the rest will help him get back on track. Sending prayers.

I hope you have a good day today with the boys. I'm glad the kitties are doing well. I'm sure they're loving having the windows open and laying in the Manniebeams.

Hi Everyone! I wanted to give a quick update on DH. I just haven't had time for a new condo yet, that will come tomorrow. He is still in the ICU, but things are slowly improving. They have elected to leave him on the ventilator, for the rest of today. He is understandable frustrated with it, but knows what must be. They did trial breathe on your own today, which went well. The gases monitored did not change significantly (guess they need too), and in view of that, they have decided to give him time for more recovery there before removing the ventilator. Perhaps tomorrow. He is more alert now, sedation has ended, and was awake and "moving" while we were there today. We ended up playing charades in a way. It is hard for him to communicate what he wants when he can't talk due to the ventilator. So... a game of charades for him to let me know he wanted me to bring in the newspapers. ;) Vitals are good, stable. He is in PT now too, to regain strength, and mobility. They had him walk a few steps today. He was ELATED to be out of bed, even if for just a brief spell. All in all, things are improving.

    @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) , @Lydia & Rosie AKA &Basil , @Amy&TrixieCat , @elizabeth and gus , @carfurby THANKS EVERYONE for the vines and well wishes! I cannot thank you enough.

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) Not yet on the road ID. it is on my list of shopping to do's. I plan on doing that kind of thing tomorrow. I will for sure be getting one, should have last year!:)

@carfurby THX, we had an excellent day on Friday. The boys and I went to a new local beach/park, one with a working lighthouse, and ferry terminal. They enjoyed it immensely so it is on our return to list. Right you are on the kitties! I LOVED the Mannie sun beam thing. :joyful::joyful::joyful:

@Tricia & Cinco & Harvey , @carfurby , @suki & crystal , @Anne & Zener GA , @Wendy&Neko @Rachel & Chyna (GA) Thanks everyone! They are kitten steps indeed. He sure didn't need the setback, but I think things back then were a little rushed, and they are proceeding more cautiously now. He needs the time to recover. The DRs and nurses have been awesome, and are really taking very good care of him. It is good to see them starting with the PT, and getting him up some. YAY!
