Our beloved Paula passed gently away shortly after noon today PDT. Her friend who called me said that Paula had been more asleep than awake the past several days but she knew of the great outpouring of love from all of her L/L Land family.

Pauline will let me know when they schedule the memorial service in case anyone in CA would like to attend. Paula did not have any relatives but if you would like to send a card to be shared at the memorial, please PM me and I will provide you with her friend's name and address.

I asked about donations or flowers and she said Paula would prefer that memorial donations be made to support FDMB or LLEF.

She also wanted me to tell you all that everyone who cared for Paula recently.....doctors, nurses, friends, aides...all remarked on how amazing our family was and couldn't believe the incredible amount of cards and letters sent from all over the world to support Paula.

Paula joins her beloved Martin, Michael's brother, and their ashes will be combined. Michael is being lovingly cared for permanently by wonderful Cindy.

Gentle journey, my sweet friend. May all our GAs guide your way to Martin and the light.

This is so sad. But she passed knowing that her baby Michael is being cared for and has a home and that would have given her peace.

RIP Paula. I didn't know her, just the amazing outpouring from the board since I first learned of her illness. May all her friends and loved ones find peace, and her heart find rest among all the GAs at the bridge. So grateful her Michael is in a warm, loving home. You all are amazing folks.

I'm so sad to hear she is gone. She was so devoted to Michael that she risked her life rather than leave him alone. Everyone here on this board, and the FB group, too, should feel proud of the outpouring of love and support that was offered, and the help that came when she needed it because we are a family. I'm sure she is at peace, knowing Michael is in loving hands.

We'll miss your condos, Paula, and the reports from the Blues King. Fly free and land softly with your dear Martin.

On this very sad day I will be imaging in my mind this wonderful reunion for Paula when she reaches the rainbow bridge and is greeted by all our GA kitties and droolers and most of all, by her beloved Martin. I am sure Barbara Benner will make sure you welcomed by those in our FDMB family who have gone ahead.

Cindy, special hugs for lovingly taking over Michael's care and making Paula's travels across the bridge without worry.

Paula had such a fierce love for her 'babies'...she's reunited with Martin, such a joyful reunion that is...

I don't wish you to 'rest in peace' Paula - I wish long walks in the sun, soaring with the raindrops, flying thru the clouds and sliding down rainbows....

For those of us here mourning her passing, words that touch many hearts and true for Paula:

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

    God Bless....

I remember when Paula joined FDMB in April 2014. She told us all right away that she'd had multiple brain aneurysms and was worried that she might not understand everything about how to take care of Michael. She was also worried that she couldn't wake back up at night to test him if he needed it. But Paula was willing to learn and completely devoted to Michael, so she listened and she learned, and was able to get Michael into remission.

Not a small thing for anyone, but especially amazing considering all she was dealing with.

Paula was someone I admired very much. Her devotion for Michael was obvious. She didn't want to go to the hospital and leave him alone. I enjoyed her daily humor very much "yo cuz, i'm on duty with Deputy LagoonMeister Rusty."
Here's a few of her special comments from Michael's 3/29/16 condo and the next day.

I wonder if I will ever see remission again?

I am so sad that the world and our family here have lost such a special woman. Her story has been both terribly sad and truly inspirational. I am grateful that she was able to pass knowing that her beloved Michael was safe in a loving home. Our GA kitties and the friends that we have lost are welcoming her tonight. Paula may not have had relatives, but she had a family here, and she will be sadly missed and never forgotten.

Such sad news, I was so very sorry to hear this. Thank you , Marje, for all you have done to keep us all apprised of Paula's situation. Thank you, Cindy, for giving Michael a great, loving home, so Paula could rest easy knowing he was loved and cared for. I know Paula is happy to be reunited with Martin. Although we grieve for the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to welcome her at the Rainbow Bridge. Fly free, dear Paula, all at FDMB will sorely miss you. :rb_icon:

Must be comforting to you all to know that she is now walking with her dear Martin once again ...
And it must have been such a comfort for Paula to know that her Michael will be lovingly cared for by Cindy

Paula's courage, dedication, and overwhelming commitment to Michael stand out even among this group of dedicated, courageous, committed FD kitty caregivers. I like to imagine her holding Martin on her lap showering all our GA cats with pets and they returning the attention with purrs and headbutts. Telling tales of this FDMB family. We are a family. We have lost a loved one. Yet, she will always be here, with us. And each morning I'll be thinking of her and wishing I could once again see her opening line: good morning :coffee::coffee: and hear about the Blues King or the deputy lagoonmeister lounging in his green pajamas....

Cuz Michael. Be good. Mama's still got her eyes on you! And I'm pretty sure she's smiling.

Always remembered Paula. Always an inspiration. Always. Always.

Even though Paula might not have had any blood relatives, she certainly had a family here on the board.

For those of you that know more about donations to FDMB or LLEF, would it be possible to have a special memorial fund in her memory? That way, funding could be dedicated to something that was near and dear to her heart (maybe to caregivers who have medical issues themselves).

RIP Paula - you will always be remembered.

I don't know about FDMB except that any funds donated to it go towards operating this site.

As far as LLEF, I'd have to discuss it with the other committee members which I'm happy to do tomorrow.

There is also DCIN and they also help members with needs for diabetic cats....insulin, vet visits, etc. I don't have a contact there anymore but it's a great idea if we can find a contact.

It's very clear when we lose someone close to us that we grieve. It is somewhat amazing to me that, despite probably never having had interaction with Paula here, (or minimal at best), I feel grief at her loss. We know we all share a love for our babies, or we wouldn't be here. I surmise that given that common bond, we establish a sense of friendship with others - even those we don't get to know well. Perhaps because I would be concerned about the well-being of my pets, should something happen to me, I relate even more to Paula. She put her love and dedication for Michael before her own health. It is heartwarming to know that others were able to check on her, ensure she received medical care, and most of all, relieve her concern for the loving care for her dear Michael.

Thank you to all here who stepped up to assist Paula, (especially Darin and Cindy) and ultimately enable her to find peace, knowing that Michael would have the love and care that she would have wanted. This is such a great family to be a part of. Rest now, dear Paula.

The information below is provided based on members' requests.

LLEF has established a Memorial Fund in Paula’s name. Please contact LLEF via PM (LLEF is FDMB user name) if you wish to remember Paula in this manner.

Please also remember that there are other options as well if you choose to donate to FDMB or DCIN.

The FDMB donations page can be found here: Fund Raisers for felinediabetes.com. The link also cycles in the banner at the top of each page.

You do not need a Paypal account. To make a donation using credit card or debit card, click on Make a Donation, then choose the link for "Don't have a Paypal account?". You'll have the option to put in credit card or debit card information.

I'm sure Paula would be very pleased to know that others are helping other current and future diabetic cats in her memory.

Thanks for the link. There was no place to say it was in memory of Paula, though. Any suggestion? I already made the donation but would like it to be in her honor.

Any donations to FDMB will not be specifically in Paula's memory. They will just go to the general fund. If you wish to make one specifically in Paula's memory, LLEF has established a memorial fund in her name and the funds will go towards Michael's care first.

It is always heartbreaking when a kitty crosses the Rainbow Bridge. To our good fortune, I can only recall a handful of caregivers who preceded or joined their kitties at the Bridge. What does stand out for me is the initial time when Paula was frighted about her health and how people not just from this board but from across FDMB rallied to make sure that Michael was taken care of so Paula could take care of herself without worrying about Michael being safe. The response of everyone, whether they had a personal connection to Paula or not, was incredible. Many of us recognize what a very special place this board is. This loss and the devotion of the people here to a kitty that belongs to a member is both gratifying and astonishing. Paula can wait at the Rainbow Bridge content that Michael is safe and well taken care of.

I just stopped by the board today and saw this sad posting. This wonderful community will be lessened by her loss.

Hugs to all the beans and their kitties, sugar and civies.
