The other thread was getting long, so I'm switching to here. The old link is below for anyone who is curious.

    http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...-user-advice-appreciated.158454/#post-1687980

I decided to give Micah the 1u dose after his AMPS from the data I got after his PMPS on .5u plus I knew I would be home all day to monitor him. I've been monitoring him every 2 hours. (All notes/updates are also on his SS)

    AMPS 306
    +2 272
    +4 151
    +6 176

Looks like he's going back up already but at least I got 2 blue ranges today. I will update around +8, but looks like 1 u is working pretty well for him.

EDIT: Good news, he hasn't thrown up again so far today... hopefully it stays that way!

That is nice! He's past the mid point of the cycle, so he should be heading back up. :) I'm looking forward to seeing his PMPS...that will give us a nice bit of data to see what kind of curve he gets!

Yeah it seems like the midpoint was around +3 or +4.

Though, the drop from +2 272 to +4 151 makes me think the midpoint is more like +4.

Ok didn't update at +8 (fell asleep haha) but his PMPS was back at 332 so I went ahead and gave him another 1u dose since he didn't go too low this morning and came back up.

Little bugger was bugging me for food the whole day. What's a good treat to give him after I test him that won't effect his BG too much? Those temptation treats give him diarrhea so I'm going to steer clear of those.

Two of my favorites: PureBites, a freeze dried meat treat cheapest in the dog size and Bonito Flakes, dried, flaked cheapest in Oriental groceries. Temptations have enough carbs to raise numbers.

Thanks for the tip on the dog size treats. I don't know why they price them differently. Looks like Petsmart carries the PureBites so I'll go with those :)

I found chewy.com has Bonita Flakes cheaper and if I remember correctly also the Pure Bites in large bags for dogs.
I crush alot of the chicken bites and sometimes sprinkle on Fritzs food.

Looks like he surprised you with amps this morning. Time for a reduction tonight!

Yes he did! I was thinking... What if I give him a 1u dose when he's in the 300s and a .5u dose when he's in the 200s (like above 220). I feel like he's staying lower for longer than the 12 hrs?

Also he LOVED the pure bites treats I found at Petsmart. I will look into the Bonita flakes on Chewy for the future but wanted to be able to give him something right away. Haha he was sniffing for more and looked at me like, "that's it?!"

+8 after skip and he's still low at 222. Might do a .5 or skip depending on what he is at PMPS.

Also he is fiending for treats and being super vocal. "More treats!" Is it normal for cats to scratch themselves more with the ear pricking? I know some of my human friends with diabetes say it itches a little after awhile.

222 is really not a low number, although he has dropped 4 pts. since the +5. He's doing well!

Skipping should be reserved only for when he is too low to shoot safely. If he were my kitty, I would be inclined to go for the 0.5u dose tonight if he's at about 200. But you should monitor him some tonight, so that you know how he's processing this dose. Would you be able to do that?

I agree, I wouldn't skip if he was over 200. But monitoring would definitely be needed.

He was at 263 PMPS so I'm not too worried. Gave him the .5 dose. I'll check him probably at +2 and +4.

Also I kind of have a problem. I RSVPed to go to a wedding next Saturday and while it is local I won't be around to give him his PMPS/shot. Any suggestions? I will be home the same night but later in the night. I have roommates but don't think they would be comfortable testing him/giving him a shot.

Let's see where he is by then. Things have changed pretty fast so far! You can shoot late or adjust your schedule starting earlier in the week, moving the times - if that will work for you.

Ok whew good to know! If I adjust the schedule should I do it by moving it maybe an hour at a time? I can wake up early and move his shot up that way.

As long as his levels cooperate (rising not falling) you can move the shot time by 30 minutes a cycle.

And you're right ! Things have been changing so quickly with Micah. It's like his body is still adjusting also there isn't a set pattern yet.

Also is it normal for cats to scratch more with the testing? He's doing it a lot but he doesn't go outside... Haven't seen fleas on him.

How late can I shoot? ... It's seeming like I won't be able to adjust to the right time because of work during the week. I can't wait until summer break when I won't have these problems.

Well, you can shoot as late as you want, as long as you can get back on schedule when you need to be (again the 30 minutes each cycle). So you can shoot 2 hours late. The next cycle (again as long as the numbers are rising and high enough) you can start moving back the time by 30 minutes. It'd take 4 cycles to get back on track.

Thanks @Sue and Oliver. What do you make of Micah's recent pattern? I thought it would be a bell curve but it seems to go up and down before I even give him insulin. I know his BG usually goes up after he eats but towards the end close to his PMPS seems like it goes both ways sometimes.

The pink amps is a little high, but in general he isn't looking bad. I'd stick with the 0.5 a few more cycles. Early days yet - we have to give his body time to use the insulin effectively.

Sometimes the dose is so small I wonder if the insulin went in. I kind of want to switch to the u100 syringes so I'd be able to make smaller changed and also I'd be able to tell easier that I injected something (maybe?).

Lots of people like the U100s. You might buy a few (be sure you are getting the 0.5 unit ones) print off the conversion chart and try it for a few doses. They are great for tiny increments.

I feel the same way about giving Sophia 0.5U with U40 syringe.
I checked my Walmart for U100 and they didn't have them. Can I buy them online anywhere?
