Today's an exciting day for Bubba:

    Yo Deputy-in-Training Bubba,
You had lots of good practice in the lagoon today. I think you're ready to take the Deputies' Exam tomorrow. Shall we plan on it?
    ~LagoonMeister Rusty

Bubba is ready for this exam for sure but, the bean is concerned about the +2 and +3's we have been having for quite some time. What happened to our beautiful flat Lantus curve? Any thoughts or suggestions? Is there a possibility that some higher carb food might help? Thinking back to June 10th when I had to leave him for my son's wedding and I gave MC food for his snacks and he popped me a 63 after 1/4 can of MC food throughout the day. Coincidence?

Interesting question Bobbie, I had been wondering the same thing for a couple of days when looking at Bubbas ss.

    What about a +9 snack?
It's sort of weird with Bubba, as he nadirs late so his high point is not at PS but at +13 +14, wondering if a +9 or even a +10 snack might help bring those numbers down.
I noticed that on June 4th you gave a +9 snack in the pm cycle and the +3 on the am cycle was the lowest it's been.

Nice start for Bubba. Some cats need a little higher carb food. You could try the +9 snack and if that doesn't work, try feeding the MC in the morning.

Good observation Gill. I am not really good with interrupting SS . The June 4th PM cycle he actually got 3 snacks that night at +3 +5 and +9! So maybe that's the ticket.I will give that a try today and tonight with a +9 and see if it helps because at this rate unless he goes below 50 again, he will never get another reduction.

    I love an experiment!!!

FYI since BFG has been OTJ I got some new food that was higher LC (7% versus 2-3%) than he was getting. When I give him that for his snacks I get lower ambg and pbmg.

I need to check my Roasted FF I give as MC, I think it is around 12% . I need to find something around 7-8 for his snack today.

I would try with his regular LC first, for a few cycles, if that doesn't work try a little higher LC.
I found, like @Judy and Boomer that I had to give him a fairly large snack at +9 to get his BG down at PS. But I tried with just a teaspoon first.
Finding out about the 7% working better for him was pure coincidence, ironically I had bought them because they were low P and I was afraid to use them because of the higher carbs and then when I finally did use them they had the opposite effect:rolleyes:

Do you think +10 would be the better time for the LC snack? If so, how would you arrange the other snacks prior? Right now he gets his first snack in the cycle around +3 or +4.

When we got to the low doses and BFG was staying flattish, we went to snacks at +3 +6 and +9, initially the +9 snack was smaller just one teaspoon, but then we found he was better with 2 tsp.

BFG feeding schedule when he went to low doses and we were trying to bring PS down, still has the same shcedule now.

    75g/3oz tin at AMPS
+3 +6 +9 (200g/ 8oz tin divided up equally between am and pm snacks)
    75g tin at PMPS
    +3+6+9

I don't know if +9 or +10 would be better. It may be a case of experimenting with it, I'd probably try the +9 first and see what happens, just because it give a bit more headroom around PS time.

Good luck with the experiment Bobbie! I agree with Gill to test the +9 snack first :bighug:

All of his preshots are greener than green so not sure what the +9 snack will do. It's always worth experimenting. Maybe a smaller portion or different preshot food? Bubba...gotta get rid of the blues buddy so help mama bean out good boy.

Not sure either Karen, not sure how it will pan out what with him being a late nadir kitty.

If you are going to try the snack I would do +9 rather than +10. When Max wasn't ready for it it didn't help. Now I think he eats the leftovers at night closer to that time and his amps is often lower. He never used to be hungry after I stopped his mini meals but that has changed too. I'd try it.

I was thinking about lowering the amount of the preshot food too. Maybe a combo of the two new stradegies will help. Today, he all ready had his usual amount of PS food so the only difference will be the extra snack at +9.

That's probably worth trying too, you might not get as much of a food spike that way.

Crossing fingers and paws that this experiment will lead to flat, green cycles!

And best of luck for the Deputies' Exam tomorrow! Walter might need some help dragging him away from the sharks once we go back to dosecreases...

Bubba just called and told me he's been reading his condo and he's excited about getting some additional snacks and he's looking forward to sampling a variety of different levels of carbs. :woot:

Yo Deputy Bubba, YOU PASSED THE EXAM! Good work! You can start patrolling this evening. The Lagoon Team will meet at the lifeguard stand and have some snacks before the evening surf begins. If you bounce, you can do beach patrol.

It looks to me like Bubba is a late nadir kitty. We've had a few cats who nadir at +12. You need to think about the SS as though everything were pushed either ahead or back by 6 hrs and you end up shooting at the lowest point in the cycle. It's completely counterintuitive!

For Bubba, you need to think about that +2 or +3 as though it were his AM/PMPS. Ordinarily, the pre-shot number is the highest in the cycle (with the AMPS being the last to fall into line). For Bubba, where we'd typically expect to see Lantus onset, we're seeing higher than his green pre-shot numbers so it's the early in the cycle where the insulin is actually wearing off. Using this logic, I'd try a snack at around +10 or +11 and see if that works. (Think in terms of pushing the time frame of everything we typically tell people ahead by a couple of hours.)

Thanks Sienne that makes sense. Today I tried a +9 for his snack and tonight I will do a + 10 and see what kind of result we get for that. We got to get those over 120 numbers to go away.

+2=125 That's a little better. Tonight I will give a +10 snack and see what that does to the AMPS. :cat:
