I thought we were getting somewhere with the runny poo and the fiber as Rico had a little texture on a poo yesterday but looks like back to water today-
Meeting my vet later for enzymes. He has actually gained a few ounces so not sure what to think

OH--- I spoke with chewys today about getting AT strips at a decent price..... she sent a email to the people who add products!

 

Having some appetite issues these days. I don't know if he's tired of the same old food or if something else is going on. Has been sleeping more than normal and seems to have a bit of arthritis and other elderly cat issues. Not vomiting though, just will only eat about half of each meal. Going to vet this afternoon. Thanks for asking.

I would ask for sure--
It is a Sq or IM injection that slows the progression of arthritis --
the loading dose is a shot every 4 days for a total of 8 shots--then 1 shot anywhere from 1x a week to 1x a month. We do 1x a week because they are older boys and they still play an run etc...
if your vet charges a insane amount you can ask for a script and get it online-
I have had vets charge from 60-149$ for the same vial--
it is a small vial --but I think Shoes is about 10 pounds? Dosing is by weight and it will last a long time--
I get the equine adequan as it has no preservatives.

Nice to see Dre clear that bounce so quickly! Hopefully the enzymes will help Rico. It's so hard and aggravating not to have answers/ solutions

 

Did tests confirm EPI for Rico?

 

no --just trying to rule things out--both vets agreed won't hurt him-
the next thing if that doesn't work is going to be hard to get in him-I forgot what she called it something to do with bile duct-
both agreed to try to avoid anesthesia and even if a US shows something I am not going to cut him for a biopsy-
making the new food now--trying to see what helps-

 

I wouldn't cut him either. He also seems to feel really good so my bet is on needing novel protein. Which new food did you decide to try?

 

I am just making the Food Fur Life Now-
I am starting with pork but I will probably go to Bison next--
He has only had pork a few times--he just pooped and it is just water-now he is eating upstairs (again) and happy--
I got the small bags of EVO dry to try before I got this stuff-he likes it..... I know dry is not great but hoping it may slow things down-he seems to have to poo after a good meal.
Also if Dre got a piece I won't have to freak out with the carbs-
The specialist suggested he may have been born with a shorter intestinal tract ???

I went to the meat market and they ground it--
Rico did enjoy the Evo dry--LOL Dre is sniffing all over but can't find it--is in refrigerator
He was sleeping when I gave Rico a little bit-so far he has not run to the LB
I am going to try the sprinkle method I guess-- they have never gone for meat raw or cooked-
I will sprinkle ea little on the MAX food they are liking lately-

 

Quite an enigma, that Rico. Sure hope for some answers and solutions.

Try putting it in a food processor so it is pate style and add water.

 

Don't mean to sound stupid but do you mean the can of MAX mixed in with the powder (I use vita mixer) and serve--?
They do not like water added-
Or are you talking about the pork and the mix? I don't think they are interested in real meat --I will try but they never liked it..... raw or cooked

 

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was thinking of the pork mix. Sometimes the texture is the problem.

 

Some recently said if you put a teaspoon or so of the new food down next to the old food at each meal, eventually the cat will try the new food. I haven't tried it, but it's a thought.

Poor Rico! I'm glad he doesn't seem to be feeling poorly, and yay for gaining a little weight. Is he staying hydrated enough?

Dre, no dry food for you, even low carb! You stick to the other yummy stuff Mama gives you!

Tricia is right, they may eventually get used to the smell and want to try it. Or you can take a little bit and mix it in with part of their regular food. The FoodFurLife has quite a strong smell, so they do have to get used to it.

I will try that--maybe mix some of the MAX in too since they seem to like that.... I guess it is another food challenge!

 

Rico gets fluids every other day (more or less if needed)
Dre is Mr jealous--if he was a only child he would be thin.... he mostly eats just because Rico might get more.... he is the portion inspector LOL
