Hi folks, haven't been here for quite a well as my little boy, Elvis, has been doing fantastically since he was put on Young Again more than two years ago, around the same time when his insulin shots were stopped. His #s and weight have been steady, but of late I've noticed him getting more finicky about eating and there has been about a pound weight loss over the last month. All the five "Ps" are good; he'll be 16 in February.

Here's my concern and I don't want to mess with success, BUT I have also been mixing in EVO Dry food in with his Young Again for more flavor, but now my local pet stores for some stupid reason have decided to discontinue EVO.

So my question is, can anyone recommend other dry foods that are equal to EVO in high protein and low carbs? I can always order it on line if push came to shove, but maybe he needs a little change up in taste mixed in with the Young Again. Here's the low-down on EVO:

    87% HIGH-QUALITY ANIMAL INGREDIENTS
such as turkey, chicken and eggs

    13% FRUITS & VEGETABLES
plus vitamins, minerals and other trace nutrients

    0% GRAIN, GLUTEN OR POTATO
    added

    THE EVO ADVANTAGE:

    • RICH LEVELS OF TURKEY & CHICKEN to satisfy your cat’s carnivorous cravings
    • GRAIN FREE & POTATO FREE to maximize protein concentration while limiting carbohydrates
    • HIGHLY DIGESTIBLE to maximize nutrient absorption and minimize waste
    • OMEGA-6 & OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS for skin and coat health
    • EASY-TO-FEED ALTERNATIVE TO RAW.EVO diets are carefully prepared to help preserve vitamins, minerals and other trace nutrients
EVO Turkey & Chicken Formula Cat & Kitten Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages.

    Thanks everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving.

if weight drop continues he may have a thyroid condition. This happens sometimes when they go off insulin. It is easily treatable though with Methimazole. Order online, there are no others except that very expensive Wysong brand.
I let mine graze on EVO the Turkey and the Fish in separate bowls for variety and feed canned twice a day. YA costs too much.

Thank you so much for replying. Elvis wasn't on insulin long, maybe about a month, before I realized he was most probably misdiagnosed; once I took him off the high-carb Science Diet food he was prescribed and onto the YA, he never remissed and never needed insulin again for more than two years now. I will be mindful of the hyperthyroidism though, as I did once have a cat that had it.

My question though was if anyone knew of an alternative to EVO because it's harder to find now where I live. I don't find YA expensive at all considering it lasts more than three months....roughly works out to $15.00 a month. I just don't know of a good product like EVO that's comparable that I could try, that has similar nutritional makeup. Elvis will not eat anything but dry food, so that's not an option either. I suppose I could order the EVO on line, but with shipping, that can get costly too.

    Thanks again.

Yes I know that, but the only place that carries it remotely near me is not close. I guess from all these answers I'm getting, or not getting, there isn't a suitable quality replacement for EVO dry I could try? That's really bottom line what I'm asking.

How about a little crumbled up all meat freeze dried food added on top? My cats like Orijen and freeze dried chicken breast. It wouldn't be a complete food but would add a little taste variety to the Young Again.

There is a food called Earthborn. I feed my other cats. I may start feeding my former sugar cat, Andre', a bit later. He was diabetic for several years so I'm walking it back slowly. This food is about 16 % for the grain free. There are three kibble versions two are suitable and one is not. Use "Wild Sea" and "Primitive Feline" The best website and bags in the industry. The kibble is tiny and easy to eat for those with bad teeth or those who like to just gulp it down. Both inside and outside cats love this food. Even cats that don't like wet eat their canned. I am impressed with the company and when I am sure of Andre's condition I will make the change.
You will also like the price as it's easy on the wallet.

Googling shows that many on-line places still carry the Evo cat and kitten turnkey and chicken. I did notice that Chewy no longer carries Evo

Thanks one and all....I will investigate the Earthborn Holistic product further. If it is grain-free, it should be ok to mix with the high-protein Young Again. Appreciate everyone's help.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Sorry...one more quick question. I notice that many of the grain-free foods contain potato, which the EVO does not. Is this a big deal? Would the potato be ok for an older cat who 'might be' prone to higher insulin levels?

Potatoes are a high carb food and not suitable for diabetics.
