Wiley always picks the worst times to get sick...like the fact that it is a long holiday weekend. He has had diarrhea for about 24 hours now. The last couple have been bloody (bright red). He's still making it to the litter box, but it's been more frequent as the day has progressed. He hasn't been crying or anything and he ate okay earlier today. Prior to the diarrhea, he had been having fairly normal BMs. I do give him a little bit of Miralax and SEB everyday, because he can get constipated from the phosphorous binder he in on.

Any suggestions on what I can do - if anything? Diarrhea is very rare for him and I am worried.

Bloody diarrhea is something to be worried about. Does he have ibd? Losing blood is not good. I'm afraid that you might have to consult the emergency clinic.

Bright red blood in the poop would indicate bleeding lower down the intestines. Is Wiley straining to use the litter box. If he is constipated that could cause soem bleeding when going.

Constipation can mask as diarrhea - looks like the squits. Is Wiley straining really hard in the litter box? Tossing a bit of foam?

No, he's never really had digestive issues before. He isn't losing a lot of blood, but there is definitely some in the diarrhea.

He doesn't appear to be straining- though he gets performance anxiety when I look at him so he often aborts the litter box early if he sees me.

I'm going to keep monitoring him this morning. He did okay overnight- only using the litterbox once. He slept the rest of the time and he managed to eat a tiny bit this morning (not his full breakfast though). I really hope he doesn't get worse- I would like to avoid the ER vet if possible. There is a good chance that I could get him to his normal vet tomorrow.

And I am supposed to go to my brother's today for Thanksgiving. I would be gone most of the afternoon. I'm not sure what to do!

Jenny, with the bloody diarrhea and not eating well, a vet visit is a good idea. Sorry he picked a Holiday weekend to get sick. Hopefully you can get him seen tomorrow at his regular vet and if you can get a fresh specimen to put a sample of the diarrhea in, it would be helpful and get you some answers faster. I have use an empty test strip vial to put a sample in. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Bobbie. Wiley ate pretty good today and is actually acting fairly normal other than the diarrhea. And his PMBG was 66, so that's always a relief. I will definitely call the vet first thing in the morning. Fingers crossed they can fit us in.

I'm thankful that I was able to go to my brother's and enjoy the day, and that Wiley was okay while I was gone.

If it turns out to be diarrhea from IBD, you can use Slippery Elm Bark and /or Florstor . I used both of those when Bubba was having gastritis with great success. Glad that he is eating for you and that you could enjoy the Holiday yesterday.

I have no idea if it's IBD. I usually give him SEB in very small doses in his wet food (1/16 tsp) otherwise he won't eat it. Would you recommend I give a higher dose in a gel cap? I've tried making a slurry with a larger amount and mixing it with baby food and he wouldn't eat it.

IBD = Irritable Bowel Disease. When Bubba had the diarrhea episode, I used 1/4 tsp of SEB twice a day right into his food. He didn't object to it being there. But, ECID. If you don't think you can get more of it into his food and have him eat, then I would try a gel cap. Together with the SEB at that dose, I also gave him a 1/2 capsule of the Florastor sprinkled right into his food but not within two hours of giving the SEB because the SEB interferes with the absorption of other medicines

Bobbie, is there any chance you'd post a link to the EXACT Florastor product you use, please? I want to see whether I can get some over here for the Noodlebug.

Hey Mogs, here is a link. I got it at CVS drug store for about the same amount. Sharon14 foun it on Amazon for 1/2 the price. This is what the product looks like so you can find it cheaper on Amazon.

Good luck with getting it. It is really good stuff. I use 1/2 capsule for diarrhea daily and then used a maintenance dose of 1/4 capsules for maintenance for a few weeks.
