    Yesterday

Late start for Trix's condo...DH and I had eye appointments this morning, along with a few errands.

Happy appy, snuggly, spunky, feisty, and anti-jinxes. She's been tense at gelcap time, but the last two have gone down more easily.

@Bobbie And Bubba - Trix developed an aversion to pill pockets a few years ago when she had p-titis....won't touch them for nuthin' now. Plus, she gets too many pill to go the PP route...gelcap makes sure they all go down at once!

@Carol & Murphy - I do use butter on the gelcap, and I follow up with a small syringe of water, too.....but when she is "in a mood", it's gonna be a challenge no matter what.

    Gotta get moving....prayers to all...

    Amy

Can the gelcap be given right before she eats? Last time Boomer was on antibiotics vet recommended following with a syringe of water; I asked if following with food would suffice and he agreed it would. So I would give it just as Boomer started eating.

We have a dog at the shelter at the moment that has to be pilled - first one in years where you can't just hide the pills in some sort of yummy food. He even refuses hot dogs and has now started to stop eating his regular food because he is so suspicious that there is a pill hiding in there. ....but even though he might be 10 times the size of Trixie (he's a Shepherd mix), I'm sure he's only half as fast. ;)

In theory, yes, but I wouldn't want to stress her with a BG test and then a gelcap before food. The water isn't an issue...and gelcapping generally isn't an issue, either. She just gets in a "mood" sometimes where she decides to be extra feisty about it, which is where she's been the last few days.

So I spoke too soon - today the gelcap came apart in Murphy's mouth so he had both the cerenia and zyrtec without a gelcap - which I hate to do
I also would not do it before a test and feed - sometimes I do it right after

Trix has done that, too...once or twice she tasted the pills which of course is wicked. She did it a few weeks ago, and all 5 little pill pieces actually landed in my hand - it was a miracle! (I hold my hand in front of her mouth right after I put the pill in so I can - in theory - catch it if/when she spits it out. A few times that has totally backfired on me - I triggered her gag reflex with the pill and she barfed in my hand :eek::eek::eek:!!)

Pilling is the pits! I am so glad that civvie Forrest takes his in the pill pocket very eagerly twice a day. I am sorry that Trixie developed an aversion to them. Have you tried a different flavor?
