So my Whiskey had a lump on his head, which the vet biopsied. It's pretty much what I suspected..he has fibrosarcoma. Not much I can really do..she said the only option is radiation treatment, which is expensive with tons of side effects and wouldn't give him much time :(

    Needless to say, I'm devastated.

I'm also looking into homepoathic remedies..I figure since his prognosis is bad, might as well try something that may have worked for someone else..

When my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer, she tried this tea called Essiac. It actually seemed to help her symptoms and extended her life...and I see some people recommend it for cats as well. Has anyone tried this? Or any other homeopathic remedies?

I am so sorry to hear the diagnosis of cancer. Does the vet feel that surgical excursion is an option. If they are able to get wide enough margins on the removal, there is a chance that the tumour may not return or it could be a long time until it does.

Sending prayers and positive energies for Whiskey and lots of :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: for you.

ETA Was the biopsy done by an outside lab such as IDEXX?

Yes we use Essiac tea ourselves for general immune health and we used it with our dog several years ago who had a tumor on his leg. It shrank the tumor and added time / enjoyment to his life. As far as dosage and frequency u would need to contact a holistic vet. Also good is a book titled The Natural Cat by Anitra Frazier. She is a wonderful naturopathic kitty lover and I have worn out several copies of this over many years. We buy our Essiac tea organic herbs from herbalhealer.com who I bet could also give some dosing tips. Will be keeping you and Whiskey in my thoughts and prayers:bighug:

Just checked Anitra's book and nothing about Essiac tea but about building/supporting immune system. I consult with a holistic vet by phone as needed so that is an option as well.

So sorry to hear about Whiskey's cancer dx, I can understand your devastation. I think you are doing the right thing - if there is nothing the vet can do, by all means try other avenues!I can't help with homeopatic remedies, I know next to nothing about them, but I hope someone else with lots of knowledge can guide you and that Whiskey gets great benefit from it! Prayers and (((hugs))), and scritches for Whiskey. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Also if Whiskey will have any pain with the tumor you should ask you vet for pain meds so you will have it when you may need it.

I'm so sorry about the news.

A homeopathic treatment some of our members have used is the Agaricus blazei mushroom available in a pet formula from Atlas World:

"Among all other herbs, Agaricus blazei may be the most powerful in its ability to modulate the immune system. Agaricus blazei contains a diverse and unique profile of low molecular weight, non-linear polysaccharides. These polysaccharides or "sugar chains", include alpha and beta glucans, as well as protein-bound polysaccharides. Published research has demonstrated how these compounds promote the activity of immune system cells and support the production of immune system signaling proteins (also known as cytokines)."

Agaricus Bio® for Dogs and Cats.

I am so sorry, I know how devastating it is to receive a cancer diagnosis for your kitty. I run a Pet Parent Cancer Support group on Facebook and many there have used homeopathic remedies including Essiac tea. If you are on Facebook, you are welcome to join us. We give emotional support and share our practical experience.
