Hypo was Friday night at vet. Home sat night. 3.5 units both yesterday. Day started as 308 then down to 148 at 6.5 hrs then to 330 by PMPS.
He had @ 4.75 oz of wet by am. Mostly at end of night. 8.5 oz of dry zero & some evo mix. @ 420 calories by am.
Eating more wet so far today. Had 1.5 tblsp of zero dry.
Is bounce still an issue or getting better?
He took his appetite stim & famotidine in pill pocket @6:30am.
Will continue to encourage wet vs dry.
What is good for calorie intake to get enough yet not put bg too high?
    Thanks

Glad to hear Sprocket is eating more of his food today! Really, I think we're still close enough to the DKA and the hypo that I wouldn't worry about getting too much food-- just keep encouraging him to eat, he needs the calories.

He might be bouncing from the 148 yesterday. At this point, I wouldn't worry about bounces too much-- there's not a heck of a lot you can do, kitties that bounce, bounce!

My question would be in addition to Darrell is I hear it's important to fill up on food and that's great. But the BG is getting high again compared to yesterday. Refer to SS. This kitty has had a turn around back to the ER after a few days and one after 8 days. How do u avoid that if u can for this kitty ? Is the insulin covering the calories ? Or should Darnell feel this is ok.. filling up on calories and being relatively much higher BG than yesterday. Close to numbers today that landed him at the ER ? Or just continue like this at this dosage ? What would others do ?

Noon was 289. He has had some wet food today but still wants dry & doesn't want pill pockets with big crunch in center anymore. He has had @150 calories today only 1/2 tblsp dry. Some meds can be compounded but not all.
I have tried all the tricks for meds. His Grammy is gonna try to give meds down his throat cause she is really good at it.
So what is good amount of food to keep ketones from forming?

There's no exact number of calories to guarantee ketones not forming....you just need to get as many into him as you can right now

Good to hear they can compound at least some of his meds! The less pills, the better!!

    Good luck Grammy!!!

Grammy got antibiotic in & he wasn't happy. He got his fluids then gave another pill in pockets & he took it!
Then a few freeze dried treats and he is napping. 292 for 3pm also.

I didn't catch the new post before posting in the last one....

looks like it's not linked anyway so here it is.

    4/2 Sprocket

the cholangiohepatitis is a disease of the liver, but not an infection.

usually the recipe for dka is not enough insulin +not eating enough + infection ( often can be a uti )

I would love for you to ask your vet what infection they are addressing.
I'm not sure the antibiotic you are on would address the more common infections like teeth issues or UTI.
That should be just a phone call to get clarification.

This could be a contributing factor why the repeated episodes.....
the infection may be slipping by and not getting treated.

Just my thoughts..... to try to help....

I didn't know I can link anything. Still getting hang of lingo.

UTI was negative. He has plaque already on teeth even though he had dental in september.

I will be asking tomorrow as we have appt with specialist. Hope it clears all questions plus gets a game plan for vets to be on board with us.

His liver numbers have come down alot. He started in 600s, then to 201, then to 166 on thursday.

And of course your helping. Every reply helps us. Thank you.
