Came up almost 20 points in 30 minutes after spoon of HC. Just gave half of his usual LC food. Will test again shortly.

Question - if after 2 hours without food his bg is over 90 - can I shoot? I don't mind if his food/shot schedule is off for a few days.

As long as you can monitor and you can work your way back by moving the shot one 30 min. increment or two 15 min. increments per day, I think you are safe to shoot two hours late. His numbers could still come back down during the day. Are you taking the reduction?

I think I have to take it since he's under 90. I prefer not to take it if I don't have to. He's been on 4.75 units twice already and both times it's done mostly nothing for him. The 5 units is really working.

I'm gonna give him another test and spoon of food to see where he is. I'm cool to stall the shot and monitor.

Since you are following SLGS, you are supposed to take the reduction. He may do better on the 4.75 units this time. It can take going back and forth between doses to finally find a dose that works and earn reductions that stick.

Ok. We'll be good little kids and follow the rules. I'll move him back to 4.75.

Just tested again - 88. Spoon of HC given and retest in 30. If he's over 90 - I'll start the 2 hour count to (hopefully) shooting.

I just want to warn you that if you shoot late today, it will act like a reduction. That may affect his numbers. It may take him a couple of days to get back on track.

Shooting late acts like a reduction and shooting early acts like an increase.

Hmmm. Now I don't know what to do. Maybe I should just let him ride with no shot then. I don't want him going sky high, but whether I give the shot or not - it looks like his numbers will rise. What would you do if you were me?

If you are going to be able to monitor all day, and he doesn't drop back down, you could shoot the 5 units this morning and take the reduction this evening. I'd hate to see Rudy lose momentum. Also, if you shoot the 5 units and he drops back down, you'll know he needs the reduction.

Great, so if you are shooting 2 hours after his normal shot time, then put +14 in the unit cell with the amount of insulin that you gave. Then everyone knows that you shoot 2 hours late. Then all other test can go in there respective cells, one hour after shot is +1 and etc. The test numbers that are in the +1 and +2 cell now you can move to +12 and stack them with the times you got each test. Make sense?

Done. Total delay was 3.25 hours. I fed then waited for him to rise above 90, stopped food and waited 2 hours for a non-food influenced bg.

I put all of the early readings in yesterday's PM +11 on his SS. Notes also noted on SS.

Gonna be a long day. Bagel and coffee now for fuel. And some catnaps between bg checks to keep us going.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

Wish us luck. :cat:

Next time, you don't have to wait 2 hours for a non -influenced food number. That is for Newbies when first starting off until enough data is produced to know how kitty will react to insulin. You have plenty of data and Rudy is old timer now, LOL. So, when it happens again, as soon as he comes up to 90 go ahead and feed and shoot.

Crap. I know for next time.

Rudy the old-timer didn't say a word either. And he certainly didn't mind having 3 breakfasts this morning. He's in a food coma on the cat tree now.
