Bear had been on an extremely high dose of 8 units of Humulin after a steady rise in dosage and no results. The vet thought he was resistant to the insulin because we had tried two different types.

Then, one day, I'm woken up and told he's "freaking out". I believe he had a seizure and am happy he had been sleeping beside my step dad and woke him up in the process so he could then wake me up. It was his first hypo and I came here for help. Everybody was amazing, helping me to help him through the event and we came out the other side with more knowledge and determination to get his diabetes under control.

With a mixture of advice from here and speaking to his vet, I slowly weaned his insulin down, watching his numbers as I did so. My husband called me crazy and, at times, I felt like it, but I was watching him like a hawk. We had one spike that followed a small hypo incident, but it was handled quickly and he bounced back with ease. I believe it was caused by him getting into dry food that my mother keeps for her cat.

Now, he has been off insulin for two weeks straight and I'm calling it! Bear is officially off the juice!

I even drug my husband into my craziness and we had a small little victory dance last night while Bear and his brothers enjoyed their dinner. We would like to thank everyone who helped us figure out the ins and outs of feline diabetes and to bring Bear back to a happier place. I'll continue to check him randomly and keep my eye out, like I have been doing with his brothers since I've started testing at home, but I'm just so happy right now!

    Thank you!

Wonderful news about Bear, @EllieAviles !
Would you feel able to also record his remission on this special thread here, in the 'Caninsulin/Vetsulin and N/NPH' forum? Stories like yours are very encouraging for others to read.
    Recent Remissions?

Good luck with Bear! Keeping fingers and paws crossed that the remission will be permanent. :bighug:

    Wow!

I remember you explaining that first episode -- I just couldn't believe how lucky it was that Bear was right next to your stepdad.

    Congrats!
