I'm pretty sure this is a good thing, but this entire afternoon cloudhas been at 160 to 170 and I do t have long till his pre shot. I'm wondering what I should do or if this is a sign of any thing I'm unaware of. He's gone from flip flopping to staying.... completely still? At least for THIS afternoon. Should I hold off if it doesn't go up? The fast it's been so still has me thinking ' yay he's stable!' And ' what the heck are you doing cat..'
Added comment:: shot time, he's at 194 so I'm opting out of his shot. Too low to chance it. But any ideas what this low ' normal ' streaks all about? And what it might mean for his dosing?

Wow, nice. Yeah since you don't have any data and he's already on such a low dose, skipping was the safest option.

Hard to say for sure but it's good, whatever it is. :) You'll have to practice drawing up low doses like 0.25 u soon.

Very nice, skipping was safe but I agree with Kris, you'll probably need to practice that 0.25U ;)

I'm going to be counting drops with colored water today after work, it looks like he's coming out of his bounce! And now I just gotta run into a pharmacy that will sell me the half units syringe while I actually have the picture of the box with me. ( I keep forgetting it at home.)

Question for those who wake up later, but should I consider switching him to another food? I am seeing a trend of giving him 0.50 for a while. Then he is in the yellows then reducing the dose after a while only to have him at 207 then dip way low. I don't know if it's the food or that he's stuck at 0.50 but I'm not sure I can maintain him in the 100s it seems like I'm missing a factor here.

    Morning Allie :)
Are you thinking of trying a really low carb food or slightly higher? If the 207 then dip low is from last night, he was not too low. Unless there's a scary lime green we're not seeing yet. As long as his PS is >200, I think you should stick with the 0.25U for at least 2 more cycles. We'd like to see a dark green nadir around 90 with those yellow PS's :D

Let me know if I've misread something ;)

Allie, Last night's cycle on 0.25u looks pretty darn good to me. Cloud went down slowly and steadily and even if he went a little lower than the 149, that cycle seems less likely to set off any major bouncing. I agree with Yong, that getting Cloud down to a very low blue or high dark green (90 to 110 or so) at nadir, would be ideal. Sometimes it takes a few ups and downs with dose to achieve the goal. The improvement in numbers has been remarkable so you should be proud of the progress you've made. Now comes the finessing of the dose and in time, the possibility of being able to give a small dose at a pre-shot of slightly under 200. Not suggesting that yet but that may become necessary if you want to get his nadir down a bit lower.

I'm not sure what the carb level is of the food you are feeding. Some cats are more carb sensitive than others but most do fine with 5% to 8% with no appreciable difference in numbers. The way food can have more influence on numbers is feeding times but when you are working that may not be as easy to adjust. Feeding the majority of food in the first half of the cycle will often help slow down any major drops and not influence end of cycle pre-shot.

Thanks for the advise guys! I'll aim for a lower dip in numbers today! I was nervous about him going into green because the thought of another scary emergency vet visit was terrifying. I'm
Already dreading that I'll have to take him and my other ( samples) to my mothers where I used to live while I work graveyard on 4th of July ( fire work show right across the hills though yay?) but she's capable of testing him. I'm gonna try and get him stable before that though. And his carb level is prett low like in the below 9 carbs area. But if his foods not an issue I'll continue on true nature they love this stuff.

If it ain't broke don't fix it so if you are getting those good numbers with current diet and they like it, go with it. Insulin doses can be adjusted but finding food our kitties like and will continue to eat long term can be a real challenge. ;)

Success!! he's at 245 PMPS tonight and he seemed to have done just fine while i was gone with just one can of food for break fast. Im hoping to get my grave yard shift ( the day before i go in for it) to really get some good readings on his blood glucose on this new 0.25 but I think i got him down to that amount and steady which is really going to help on 4th of july since He'll be going to my moms to stay for the night where i used to live. I dont want his stress to flare and make his BG go crazy due to the fire works near my apartment.
Added:: Ive updated the spread sheet till about 3 am but whats weird is he went down then up? He had just finished eating. does that mean the insulin wore off? or is it only up because he ate his wet food and it will go back down. I can't stay up any longer as I have to be up and do a family lunch before work tomorrow but if any one knows if that is normal i'd love the input.

Thinking it could be because insulin started working by +2, then he ate so it went up a little. It's really not that much though ;), may have gone back down. He's doing well with this 0.25U :cat:

Looking good! Focus on the spread of colours instead of individual numbers. That's where the story is told. :)

Looks like for whatever reason Cloud dropped quite quickly and by a fair bit early last night and the rise following could just be a little bounce. It happens and it's something to tuck into the back of your head for future reference and then forget. Probably a one off situation and as Kris says, it's the pattern over time not individual numbers that tell the story. Happy Fourth of July! Hope you have a great time at your family luncheon.

Glad you are taking pre-emptive action to keep Cloud away from fireworks but remember they hear much better than we do so if there are fireworks anywhere in the vicinity and they spook Cloud, it may raise his BG a bit but it's a temporary thing and normal. Luckily my girl is pretty chill but I'm sure if I'd checked her youngest brother last night, his BG would have been through the roof. Poor guy was running from room to room with his ears pasted on his head, eyeballs the size of saucers. I hate fireworks cause he runs around looking terrified and there is no consoling him.:(

I'm taking them to my moms so that he won't have to deal with fire works .
Also his BG is higher only hours after his shot again. I'm wondering if 0.25 is not enough....

Have you received your syringes with half unit markings? He might need one of those finicky doses in between 0.25U and 0.5U

Oh god there's a between and no not yet. Not tomorrow but 4th of July I'll be driving over to my moms. She lives by a Walmart. I can buy them there so I planned to take his box label and suppplies and stuff then pop to Walmart after and buy them

Ok! Good news! So I've gotten cloud to that magical good window! But the worry now is should I give him his 0.25 if he remains at this 120-50 window? I don't want to chance him a bounce or hypo while I'm at work tonight. I have two days off after tonight.!

Just got home trapnurse! If you won't be home tonight and he's still in the 120-150 range, I think you should skip. To be safe :). Would only suggest a reduced dose if you were going to be home to monitor him, so either way at that range you would not hold his current dose.

Some cats' BG just gently slides down like Cloud is doing while others will require insulin periodically or at very tiny doses over a period of time (might be weeks or months) before they finally stop needing insulin. Every cat is different and all you can do is follow their lead and keep them safe by not trying to speed up the process. See what Cloud does the next few days. We're all routing for you! :joyful:

Should I be worried if he's sllloowwwwllyyy climbing back up? Also side note he eats like 75% of the wet food can ( 5.5 ounces) himself , could it be I just need to limit him to half a can each meal time? My other cat doesn't eat that much.

I say if he's hungry let him eat unless he eats too fast and throws up. Insulin needs change but 108 and 110 are still fine

Every cat is going to have different caloric needs even if they are basically the same size. I have one guy who would eat me out of house and home if I let him but he is also like the Energizer bunny activity wise compared to my extra sweet girl. So while my diabetic is bigger than her brother, she has never eaten as much as him except when her diabetes was raging completely out of control. I agree you should let him eat what he wants/needs. He may still be re-acquainting himself with those lower numbers and "think" he needs food even though he really doesn't. Unless he is gaining a pile of weight he doesn't need, I see no reason to limit him. Interestingly, you could potentially increase rather than decrease his numbers by trying to limit his intake. I've seen my girl pilfer food and have lower numbers than I'd expected as a result. Made me rethink the amount of food I was rationing her to.
