I had to take my poor baby to the vet first thing this morning. Still wasn't eating, not drinking and wasn't acting well at all. He wasn't acting like himself, all hunched up, couldn't walk well, in pain. So after 3 long exhausting hours (at a different vet by the way) and more test. They couldn't find anything out of the ordinary except for dehydration. Heart, lungs, thyroid, of course his numbers were in the 400s but everything was all good. Even checked for pancreatitis and that was negative. So we decided to do X-rays to rule out masses or blockages. The only thing they could find was he's impacted and figured it was from being dehydrated. So he was sent home cause it's the weekend and not many people would be around and I could keep a better eye on him. They have him on sub-Q fluids, gave a pain shot , b12 shot and was given some appetite stimulates along with some different caned food that should help him potty, oh and lots of CatLax. Hopefully we'll have some successes but if not I have an after hours number and need to go back in Monday morning. They did say after looking at my chart for his numbers that he was doing well and also said for him that .5/1 unit was good. It's been hell of a morning and it's killing me to see him like this. I think the pain shot has finally kicked in cause atleast he's sorta laying down and not standing all hunched up. Gotta give more sub-Q fluids later and try to get him to eat alittle cause they wanted me try to give him alittle insulin later. Wish there was something else I could do for him, he looks so pitiful. :arghh::arghh::arghh:

Oh it stinks when they hurt - we hurt 'cos they hurt. You really do need to try to get some insulin in him - without it he can't metabolize the food that he does eat. Even if you have to syringe feed him some, his body needs both the food and insulin to work right and to heal. Constipation can be very painful too. The CatLax may raise his glucose which is another reason he needs insulin.

    HUGS and hugs and more....

Thank you! I'm trying, I got few small syringes of food mixed with water. I think I wore more than he swallowed.

    .

I just tested and it 242mg. I'm not sure how much he actually swallowed. Is it still ok to give him half a unit?

I'm SO sorry I'm just now getting back here. If you haven't given any and it's still that high, I would give something - maybe a bit lower than .5, you don't want to deal with a dive either. If you've given .5, that's OK too - just keep feeding as often as possible to keep food in him. He needs all you can get in him to help heal. Keep a check on his bg too - that will tell you how his body is doing too.

    More hugs,

Yes, definitely give him a bit of insulin if you haven't already, and then just keep an eye on him. You know better than just about anyone right now how to handle it if he goes low ;)

I'm so so sorry to hear that he's doing poorly today. Needing to poop can definitely make them run a little higher. Hopefully he'll pass it soon. And that should help with his appetite too. It's hard to eat when they already feel "full".

Thank you everyone. No he hasn't pottied yet. He's finally been able to rest some also myself got a few minutes of rest since I was up all night with him. My nerves are shot and I'm a basket case. I'm gonna try and force feed him shortly. It absolutely breaks my heart to do it and have him fight me like he does. I have to give him some more sub-Q fluids also.

Glad you both got some rest. Hope the fluids help! What food did they give you?

When you're feeding him, put the syringe in the side of his mouth and just put in a little bit letting him work it in his mouth and swallow. After 3 or 4, you may find that he settles down and actually lets you. It's just different so it's bothering him. Don't feel bad, you're doing this to help.
