Hi everyone, my cat's name is Lily and I am not sure how I am going to afford this Lantus insulin. My vet feels it is best for her. Any suggestions as to where I can get this cheaper than VetRx? Feeling overwhelmed. Thanks.

    Good morning and welcome,
Lantus is indeed very good for cats but expensive in the US.
I buy my from Canadian online pharmacy - twice cheaper - HERE is their site.
You'll need to email or to fax your RX and then buy it over the phone - the customer service is outstanding.
Another huge saving comes with starting home testing using human meter (no need for vet's visits at all). Here is what many of us here are using - all bought at Walmart:
Relion Prime human glucometer $15, box of 100 testing strips $18, Relion lancets gauge 26 or 28 $1.50 per 100, pack of cosmetic rounds $3, Neoosporine ointment with pain relief $5.
Another option is to check our Supply Closet sub forum - HERE is the link.

If you have any questions please post them at the Main Forum - this one is for introductions and not too many people visit here.

Thank you! About how much does one bottle of Lantus cost you from here? Do Canadian pharmacies vary much in price? Your cat is adorable!

    Hi,
Meds prices are cheaper in Canada in general, I think. I have not used any other pharmacy. The vial, I believe is $150, same for the pack of 5 pens, the shipping costs is $25, they can add extra ice packing for another $10 but it's totally optional - I ordered in July and needed extra caution against the heat at the time.

Have you got a chance to check the Supply Closet Forum?
HERE is the link to a recent post from a reputable member - you can get a single pen or a couple from him, not the whole pack of 5 - that'll save a lot.

My cat is on 1U Lantus x 2day. I keep pens refrigerated and it'll last on that dose for several months - many here use their pens to the last drop. I used to have a vial of Lantus but now I prefer pens.

I use Relion 3/10 ml cc capacity, gauge 31, 8 mm syringes with half unit marks on the syringe barrel from Walmart to draw the insulin from the pen - it's about $3.00/10 syringes.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

ETA: the best deal on Lantus vial I could find in California was $265, my vet could sell me one for just over $300.00 . Opted out to buy from Canada - many here do.
