    Hi all!

    It’s been a while! I will make a new thread with an update on my kitties soon but for now I’ve gotten some questions from the dutch board and they like to know your experience with this matter;

So we’ve got prozinc in 10ml bottles. Some of the kitties won’t use a whole bottle within 60 days (that’s when it’s no good anymore says the company)
What do you do with the prozinc after that time? Do you still use it? Or not? And do you have smaller bottles in your country?

And how much does a bottle cost for you in your country?

Thanks so much for the info!

    Xx

Hi Ruby! The vials are the same size, and vary anywhere from USD99-160 depending on where people live or order it. I used my bottle for six months with no problem at all. At that point I wasn't comfortable using it any longer, though it didn't seem to have lost much potency. Many people use it past the 60 days. It's important to be very gentle with it, store it in the middle of the fridge, not the door to reduce vibration, roll it gently to mix, don't inject air into the insulin itself, etc. But as long as it's treated well, it can be used until it seems like there is a reduced impact, although again at six months, I would just feel better replacing it. And if used past date, be cautious in starting a new vial in case there is a difference in potency. I hope you are well!

Hi. Our vet said it should last several months as long as it is handled correctly.

    Ruby! Lovely to see you!

Yes I used mine several months past date. As long as they are testing so they can see if the potency seems to be reducing I’d be comfortable using it for awhile. :)

    Thanks for all the replies!

I've passed it to the dutch board.
they do have another question regarding the picture below.
This is a picture from a member who was preparing a shot but saw that the fluid wasn't nicely white anymore.
In the bottle there was a white 'string' like thing visable.

have you ever seen something like this? and what is it? and is the prozinc still ok to use?

    Hi Ruby,

I think it's possible for ProZinc to get clumps (string?) when it's been contaminated somehow. If it was my bottle, I'd discard it and buy a new one.

I switched Teasel to Levemir at the end of September. He's still up and down but feels much better than he did on Lantus. How are your kitties? Is Baco still in remission and maintaining a slim figure?

He seems more steady then before. Almost no pink numbers! That's great. But the best part is that he's feeling much better!

Mine are fine, Minnie is still going strong, 15 years old now and still a really strong kitty. Eats well, is healty and very sweet of course ;)
Baco is doing fine, and still very slim, she will never be a ultra slim lady but she is happy and I think that 6KG's is fine, concidering she came from 7.5KG.
The only thing that happend 3 weeks ago is that her time feeder broke, and I wanted to buy the same one, but the store I bought it from doesn't have them until January 2018 which really sucks.
So now she has got the same as Minnie has, the sureflap microchip feeder, which gives her access to food 24/7. I still weigh her food but she decided if she eats it all at ones or keeps some for later.. mostely she chooses to eat it all at once which i'm not happy about.
So in January I will buy the old one she had which was timed to give her 8 meals a day, 4 hours a part. I liked that way more. (I think Baco likes this new one more, but mama chooses what her babies get hahaha)

Oh and she had a fight with Minnie, and Minnie scratched her pretty bad which made her scratch the wound pretty hard. I got some special creme for it to heal.
But look how bad it was...

    And this is today, after giving her the creme for 2 days;

    Hello, Ruby!
Nice to see you on the forum. Just to give you a few replies for the Dutch board from my experience in France. My vet specifically asked the Prozinc supplier whether it was Ok to use it beyond two months. She confirmed that they said this was Ok provided the Prozinc is kept in the fridge. The bottle you showed looks exactly like the ones (10ml) I buy here in France. As for price, Prozinc retails at 78 Euros and my vet very kindly gives me a discount and only charges 64 Euros ($75).
    Hope this helps!
    Astra and Purrfect.

Hi Sharon! Long time no see. I've been MIA for a while, I moved houses, bigger house and living together with my BF now :) So real happy.
My life, ugh, ups and downs... The depression still takes a lot of energy on my life but I'm hanging in there. No medication anymore so that's good. I'm much better but when I do have a down moment I can't overcome it. I just need to deal with it... which sucks.
How are you and Colin doing?

Glad you’re happy and winning the depression battle. Keep fighting and things will keep improving.
Colin and I are fine, still dancing the FD dance, but it’s less stressful now that he’s broken through his insulin resistance.
It’s nice seeing you and I hope you come visit more often!:bighug:

You're welcome or graag gedaan, Ruby and Baco! I'm doing fine, thanks; Purrfect's still on a bouncy ride as his dose goes up. Sorry to hear that you've had depression issues -- the old "black dog" as Winston Churchill used to call it. But it's good to hear that your general life's situation is positive and happy. I love the Netherlands -- I know it from playing in and around the Groningen region! See you around -- Ik zie je nog wel op het forum!

I've seen this years ago in a few vials of Caninsulin. The "string" wasn't attached to the side of the vial and basically looked like an old, wet soggy piece of thread. Our vet refunded the cost and contacted the manufacturer, haven't heard a word since.
