A cat I rescued 2 years ago got diagnosed with diabetes 2 months ago. I've had him on Lantus for two months and still can't get him in good range. I'm up to 2 and half units twice a day. If his numbers are high before meal time can i give him fast acting novolog with meal if Lantus is in his system

What are you feeding? Are you testing at home?

Yeah I've been home testing him like crazy. Trying to stop his constant hunger seems impossible.

Waiting for Lantus to work is frustrating

You'll need a lot of patience to get your kitty doing better. It isn't something that can be rushed. I think someone commented elsewhere that adding a fast acting insulin to the mix isn't what you should be doing so early in the game.

When i see him in the 300s in the 8th or 9th hour of the Lantus cycle I panic and wanna bring it down quick . I guess he can handle high numbers for awhile.

How much does he weigh? Is he a good weight for his size or does he need to gain? My cat who was 17 lbs (not diabetic) ate 4-5 cans a day... Until his numbers come down its ok to feed more.

He is 11 pounds but he has a big frame. Before he got sick he was 13pounds . I figure the more I feed him the higher his number will go. Makes me scared to feed him more. For the last 2 weeks the lowest 2 and a half units of Lantus takes him is about 180. Been to 2 vets used all my money and I still don't know what the goal number is.
