We have had Cash our 16 year old ex-male on Vetsulin since October He was up to 12 units a day in January 2017.

For months Vetsulin would only hold his blood sugar down for 8 hours max. We ran curves back in December.

Due to the suggestion of another user I tried Young Again Zero Mature dry food. Starting on March 1, 2017. We have 5 cats and 4 dogs, have to feed Cash separately or it will be gone in minutes.

I'll let the his results speak for themselves. Sure beats the off scale readings (>600) we were having in the late fall. . We think that he got into the dry dog food on 4/3/17 as he came back down with some insulin.

Since acquiring his diabetes he quickly lost his abiliity to climb, he has gotten so that he will climb to the sofa. The rest of our cats eat off an Island He has gotten so he can run again but still refuses to climb much. Thankfully so or he would be eating the science diet that the other cats eat.

Wow he's doing great! It only took a month on this food to put my cat in remission... Looks like cash is heading there as well.

Try eyeballing less than 0.5... A 0.25 on those low numbers 120-150 and I wouldn't shoot at all under 115. Don't wanna risk going too low. You might wanna try an off the juice trial soon.

Yes thank you much for your advice about the cat food, I never said so did publicly.

We have seen him slip up twice and we think we know why but time will tell.

So far the data tends to show that he is good for a couple of days then starts creeping up.
Thanks for your help will take it to heart.

Another month has passed and we still have not needed any insulin. He is able to run again. Almost all of his diabetic neuropathy seems to be gone.
Good to have the old Cash back.

I was reading the package insert and they are recommending that before starting insulin you try using their food. Normally I would say it 'hype' but am a believer. After injecting our cat with 3 bottles of insulin he is free of it.

We don't feed him any treats.

We have 4 other cats and they all love the food but one has GI issues with it, we though we had a sewer line broken :).

Cash has been 7+ months without insulin. He was up to 12μ/day in January. We couldn't maintain 300 on his blood sugar.

I have been a little concerned that his blood sugar might be on the rise as his weight has gone up to 15 pounds. A year ago he couldn't maintain 10 pounds, down from 14. Did a glucometery, blood sugar was 54 today. Perfect on my machine, a Relion Prime. I checked two of my other fat cats and they were both in their 40s.

Cash is 17 years old. He runs plays with our other cats and is very social. Last winter he had developed the hind quarters neuropathy, all gone, normal again. Thanks to Young Again.

I am a customer and do not get any compensation for what I am saying about this product, I pay full price for the Young Again food.

My vet has started recommending it.

Pumpkin's blood sugar has dropped 100 points after just a few days on Young Again Zero -and he loves it! We are watching him closely since it is dropping quickly.

Great! I credit it with helping cc into remission the first time. (Getting into remission this second time is proving to be tricky!)

Good luck! Pumpkin's body fights the insulin. It would be amazing if he could get off of it! He was up to 14u of Lantus.

Saw that CC was 16 pounds, is that higher than he was? Do you think a diet somehow might help. Cash is getting heavy.

We found it easy to feed him as he lost his ability to climb. We fed our other cats up on shelves He was fed in a bathroom several times a day. Then a few months ago he realized he could climb pretty well again and he was snacking on the other cats food. We have moved things around to Cash proof our other feeding stations.

    Pumpkins mom,
Your cat is on 14 BID? Be careful Cash suffered from low blood sugar on few occasions last February, the hypoglycemia's clinical signs happened quite suddenly. Confusion and blindness. Only quick work dumping diluted honey down him brought him out of it. We were trying for get perfect regulation with him by giving him both vetsulin and Young again food. I read somewhere on their web site that what they are recommending is that when the diagnosis is first made that YAZM can be used instead of insulin. Backward from my medical training. However you manage Pumpkin.

    Good luck too all.

I wish we could continue successful care with our ACD. He is 9 years old and has developed Degenerative myelopathy, a genetic disease very similar to ALS.

I think her weight does contribute to it. Yes she's heavier then before....over the past year her arthritis has worsened so she isn't as physically active as she used to be. Poor thing

She was in remission for a year. Went out of it within days of a year anniversary. She’s not super high... averages around 200 for preshots these days... but still needing shots for the past 15 weeks.

@cashy , that's wonderful news about the remission! Woohoo! [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Do you feel able to write a few details about Cash's remission in the remission thread on the Caninsulin/Vetsulin forum? It's hugely encouraging to others to see that remission is possible.

I want to try this food for my uncontrolled cat. It's hard dry food not wet. thought this wasn't good for cats? I hate that my cat isn't regulated yet it's been 9 months since he was diagnosed. Thank god! he has no other issues besides his bad teeth that have been pulled and his oral mass that was removed(not Cancer) Thank GOD again!

We had great success with YA Zero Mature & Fancy Feast Classic (we're still working on trying to go to an all wet food diet) - Tiger went into remission last January - but I had another kitty who recently passed away from renal failure that was on a different food, which Tiger ate along with his own food. Purely my fault for not separating him and the kidney kitty at mealtimes but I has having a devil of a time getting her to eat anything at all, let alone when I wanted her to eat. :| We have started Lantus and the emergency vet put him on Royal Canin Glucobalance, which I am keeping him on until I start monitoring his BG myself this weekend; after I get some numbers with me monitoring his BG with YA Zero, I am hopeful his numbers will improve more.
