Hi after reading posts on here and feeling I would be totally baffled by a human testing kit I have bought an aphatrak 2 and this morning before feeding did my first test which didnt go too badly and she has forgiven me ! the reading was 19.2 mmol. I plan on testing and recording every 2 hours today hopefully but any thoughts on this 1st reading? She was on prescription dry food and 3.0 caninsulin twice a day. a sore mouth and not eating prompted a change to wet food (had no idea I could do this until I found this site) and have switched her to felix senior meat in jelly which she is eating well. because of the change to a lower carbohydrate food and until I could test her I have changed her to 2.0 units twice a day. advice on how to proceed would be very welcome. I am finding all this a bit overwhelming as I have relied on vet for 3 years, but am hoping to take the one step at a time approach with advice from this site...thanks so much

Yay! Congrats on getting that test! [IMG]
Testing will make managing the diabetes much easier. You will be able to actually see what's going on rather than having to guess.
I know it feels a bit overwhelming at this point but you will soon feel so much more in control of the situation....

That's OK. It's not super high. (Also it's an Alphatrak number, and AT numbers usually look higher than human meter numbers).

BTW, @bar , did you say in your PM that you think you gave a fur shot?
Do you think that because the blood glucose isn't dropping?
Or were you aware that you got insulin on the fur?

her fur was wet. so thinking 19.2 might be high I gave her 1 unit . tested 2 hours later and got 20.3. have decided not to do a curve today and will continue with 2 units for now. does that sound reasonable? many thanks I do appreciate you taking the time to help me. I did the control solution test twice with the meter and couldnt get any reading. it is a brand new meter so surely should be ok. ? dont want to be wasting loads of strips on a control test !
