    Hello everyone,

My name is Rachel, I live in Ontario, Canada and my 14 year old cat Reese was diagnosed with diabetes almost 2 weeks ago. :(

I've been completely overwhelmed and stressed and have had to get over my needle phobia to help him.

So happy this message board exists, I have lots of support and I know I can do this but I felt like today it was time to sign up and talk to other mommy's and daddy's who deal with feline diabetes. My animal hospital is of course closed today and I need some advice. :nailbiting:

    - Rachel :cat:

Welcome, Rachel and Reese! We all start out overwhelmed, scared and stressed. It will get better. Post any questions you have on the Main Health Forum.

Hi Rachel and Reese. Lots of Canadians here as well as Citizens of Earth all willing to help you both. You'll get lots of hugs and greeting but we also need more info to help you. Reese's age, other medical conditions, type of insulin etc. That list will get bigger but so will your new group of friends.
How bad is your needle phobia?

    Thanks for the welcome!
Reese is 14 years old and has hyperthyroidism in addition to his diabetes. He's on Lantus and I've done over 10 injections now so quite proud of myself. Usually I have a panic attack near needles or anything medical, but knowing that I need to do this for Reese is what helped me get this far. I worried since I had to skip his injection last night though because he wouldn't eat enough.

You can put all that info in your profile page along with anything you think is relevant. Then you won't have to repeat yourself. This is a great place, I wish I had found it with our first diabetic cat. As for "needles or anything medical" we all think hospitals smell bad too so we all have our own at home.

Welcome. You will be able to get so much information here. There are so many people here who know more about diabetic cats than most vets. Take your time and look around at all the information in the different forums. Knowledge is power.
