First of all, I wish you all a year that is more beautiful and peacefull for you and your kittens.
Lately I've been absent from the forum because I was depressed since I have not been able to find a transport for Tilica in the UK. The only way to transport him is by car.
On the other hand a month ago I discovered a lump on his abdomen and the vets told me it's mammary tumor and that ,it needed emergency surgery. I performed blood tests but besides urea that is three times higher than the upper limit does not seem abnormal. Unfortunately in Romania the surgeons just want to take the money are poorly trained and send me from one to another because he is old and has diabetes. In conclusion, his vet said he would do it the very next day if he did not has diabetes but took the risk of anesthesia because the operation itself is common.
After 2 weeks of madness I noticed that the bump begins to shrink until it disappears! His vet said that surgery was no longer necessary and we only have to monitor him. I hope to be able to take him with me in UK next year. With my husband we will go by car, I do not have to make a shuttle every month Romania -UK.

    Thank you friends, because of your advice, I learned better to manage his diabetes @Wendy&Neko , @Kris & Teasel , @Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey , @jayla-n-Drevon , @Squeaky and KT (GA) , @Gill & George, @Tanya and Ducia ,@Bobbie And Bubba , @Nan & Amber , @Marje and Gracie , @mihaelamiha .
Anyway thanks to everyone on this forum :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Andreea! It's so nice to see you here! :) I'm so glad that tumour seems to be shrinking on its own and I hope you can get Tilica to the UK with you as soon as possible. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

    Hey :)

I drove from Switzerland to the UK with a dog (less far than Romania I'll admit). I'm sure you know this but get all the paperwork well in order (is the process for importing a pet still called Pet Travel Scheme? when I did it you needed to start the process over six months before leaving). We took the ferry, I think it barely cost anything for the dog. Beware that the Eurostar doesn't allow animals on board (at least it didn't) -- not sure if it's different for animals in cars, but a friend of mine was trying to bring her cat from France to the UK and her husband was literally turned down at boarding.

Hi, I studied Pet Travel Scheme, all the papers are ok, by ferry he can be transported on certain routes to be respected for example Calais-Dover. I would have wanted to transport him by plane but all line companies confirmed me that UK does not receive animals by air. I found only a cargo but it was from Bucharest I had to spend about 3 hours at the airport for the formalities and would have cost over 1500 pounds......

I had looked it up for the dog, and she would have had to travel as registered cargo. I found an airline, and it was something like 700 CHF for her ticket (in 2001). Her ferry ticket, IIRC, was 30 CHF ;)
Road trips can be fun. Can you plan an overnight stop or two on the way who are cat-friendly, and where he could have a break in a quiet room?
When I brought Bagha home from India (27 hours of travel) we had a few hours of waiting time in Bombay before going to the airport. It was nice for Bagha to be able to come out of his cage, wander around the room, and take a nap on the bed with my friend's nephew.
If you are ever looking for friendly people along the way do not hesitate to let me know, I have a rather extensive network of friends all over Europe and am happy to activate it for friendly cat people.

Hi Andreea, best of luck in the new year to you. :bighug: Great news the lump went away.

Paws all crossed here for a safe and uneventful car trip for you and Tilica. Neko surprised me on the long distance carbtrips we did. She complained for the first hour, then settled down. As long as she had her bed and stuff that smelled like her and home, she was fine.

Hi Wendy, I have no choice, it's an adventure but we have to go ahead. I'm tired of making Romania -Uk roads and leaving him at pet hotel .:bighug:

Hi Andreea and stinkin' cute Tilica! I know it's a lot of trouble but it sounds like a neat adventure. We traveled many thousands of miles from coast to coast with 2 dogs and a cat for several years. They had their own places to lay/look out, etc. and traveled well. Starting as soon as you can, work with him walking on a leash using a harness that he can't escape from. Both the dogs and the cat all went for walks on leashes when dogs needed to pee. People stared at us. :)

HUGS! Don't wait so long to visit again!!

Edit to add: You may never actually walk him on the leash but if you find yourself in a situation you need to do it, he'll understand and be comfortable using it.

Hi Laura, I gave him 1/2 canna the day when he did blood tests. He was sleepy until he arrived at the vet. How he felt he was aggressed, he became a beast:cat:
But until then he was very peaceful, in the car he kept quiet.
    Have a wonderful New Year!

    Hi Andrea,

I'm so glad the lump went away. Hopefully, once you get Tilica to the UK, you will find a wonderful vet to help you take care of him.

I just returned from a Christmas trip to Ohio, and we took our two 9 month old kittens, Boris and Natasha with us. We flew. They were in their carriers for around 10.5 hours, and they did really well. We did offer them bathroom breaks when we could (used the "family" restroom in airports on layovers because you can lock the door), but only Boris went pee in the travel litter box, and only once. We just didn't feed them after midnight the night before travel, and gave them Cerenia two hours before leaving. Last month we took them to Phoenix, which is about a 13 hour drive. Again, we didn't feed the morning of travel and gave Cerenia. We had a small litter box in the car, which they used all day. They weren't interested in food or water during the trip. Obviously, with a diabetic cat, you will have to do things a little differently when it comes to feeding, etc.

I hope you will be able to get Tilica moved soon and settle happily into your new home. Please keep us posted on how things are going!

I had a female cat who went through the same . It turned out to be a harmless cyst - apparently not uncommon in cats. Romanian vets are not so swift?
Anyway, good traveling, Happy New Year.

I traveled with my cats across the country (about 3,000 miles) in the cab of a (one bench seat) U-Haul (with all my stuff in the back). They were excited/worried for about the first 1/2 day, then they settled in. I wish you the Best Of Luck, and hope you and Tilica are soon settled into your new home in the U.K. Sending :bighug:

Hi Tricia and Happy New Year!
I'll keep posting , all your experiences give me courage. Being diabetic is more difficult but but I 'll give him less insulin.

Happy newe year Kathy! I'm pleased that the cyst disappeared, otherwise I really do not know what I would have done. Romanian vets haven't modern equipment, The city where I live is the second largest town after the capital and a second largest university center, but however only 3 veterinary offices have inhaled anesthesia, nor do the faculty hospital have. I noticed that surgeons do not know internal medicine so they are reluctant when it comes to a geriatric cat with diabetes.
    Anywau I'll keep posting.:bighug:

Ugh! (to the "medical" crowd) !! The UK has wonderful vets. You'll be so much happier there!
I traveled with my cats extensively, and they all (except for my panicky calico) did very well. But I never stayed on the road longer than 8 hours. Then we holed up in a pet-friendly motel. Colette, one of my abys stationed herself on the dashboard to observe the passing scenery. Another aby, Burt, chose the back level, and like Colette, seemed fascinated by all that we drove by. Truck drivers often gave us big grins and thumbs up as we passed.
