I'm pretty new to this. Doober just started Lantus on January 3. His blood sugar has been all over the place! This morning, pre-shot, he was 106. I was advised by his case manager that I probably should have waited and tested again, so I kept an eye on him and tested a couple times this afternoon. 93 and 99. All good! His pre-shot tonight was 322! I said to my boyfriend, "That can't be right!" and tested blood two more times in less than 5 minutes. We got 242, then 221. Could this be the meter malfunctioning? Or do they drop that rapidly?

Sounds like he’s bouncing. It often happens when they’ve dropped low. He’ll come back down.

I don’t see any data in your spreadsheet?

The idea with giving insulin is to get the cat's BG numbers into normal numbers. Since the cat's body is not used to normal numbers, it panics and sends out hormones to raise the numbers and you get bouncing. Over time as the cat gets into normal numbers more and more, their body will get used to the normal numbers and not panic and the bouncing will settle down. What you describe is normal.

As Juliet mentioned, I don't see any numbers on your spreadsheet. It is really helpful to anyone who wants to give you advice to have the spreadsheet filled out. If you are having any problems with it, please post and let us know so we can help you.

Much better explanation of bouncing. Thanks Carla. I’m still half asleep after getting up at 5:45am for Silver’s AMPS.

Thank you for the advice! I updated my signature. It took me a minute to figure out the spreadsheet. This link should work :)

The link to your SS works. That does look like bouncing now that I can see the numbers.

By the way, you've got a couple of numbers on the last two lines that seem out of place under the 322..

I checked him three times pre-shot tonight. Those numbers were all within 5 minutes! That's why I thought the meter might be messing up.

Okay. I understand that. It does look funny. If you don't want to put them all in the same cell, it is a good idea to make a note in the remarks column so people will know what is going on. I know if you put them in one cell, you will have to manually color it and they are different colors, so you would have to pick one.

The 242 and 221 aren’t far apart given meter variance can be up to 20% high or low.
