She hasn't eaten in about 4 hours and is hungry, but I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to feed her this close to PMPS. Is that correct? Also, if her PMPS is lower than 150, should I post and wait for advice?

 

Do you have any freeze dried treats you could give?

In the future, try and feed before that +10 so you don't have a hungry kitty pestering you for 2 hours.

Yes, I have freeze dried salmon and turkey and can give her.

@Wendy&Neko , do you have any thoughts? @Lannie McVern , I'm not that experienced, but would like to see if you can get some help with your decision, last time you NS 65, the numbers weren't terrible, but depending on the next BG reading, if you shoot, you'd have to keep a close eye tonight, have karo and/or HC as well as lots of test strips. I don't feel comfortable advising, but let's see if we can get some experienced feedback while you stall. If anything, I've bumped you in the thread order

How do you feel about shooting? Will you be able to monitor for as long as needed (could be a late night)? Do you have HC food, some kind of syrup, plenty of test strips, etc.?? Or would you be more comfortable skipping tonight? You would then be able to shoot at your normal time in the morning.

 

Honestly, I'm pretty nervous to shoot. I only work 9 Mondays and Fridays in the school year, but tomorrow happens to be one of those days and I need to be very alert.

I do have everything I need to deal with a hypo situation, though.

 

Then I would save the heroics for a time when you can comfortably monitor. Better a day too high than a minute too low.

 

I haven't had more than 5 doses in a row without a no shoot. Thank you for walking me through this.

Because of the depot, you would still have to stay up and monitor. I should have asked: Does Freckles have any history of DKA? If so, skipping is not a good idea.

 

No. I don't even know exactly what DKA is, though. If she had dealt with it, I'd probably know, I'm guessing.

 

There is an argument to be made for taking a reduction, even though one has not been officially earned. The change to only LC could be having a big impact on her BGs, she recovered very quickly from the last skip, and cleared the last bounce pretty quickly.

She could bounce from the low numbers today, in which case you might want to hold the dose at least one more cycle (that's called "shooting through the bounce"). Otherwise, I'd suggest you decide in the morning, giving some consideration to what her AMPS is, whether to go with .75 or .5. I would get at least one more test in tonight, before bed, just to be sure she stays up.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Yes, you'd know. She would have been very, very sick and required hospitalization. Cats that have had it are more likely to have it again, and one of the causes is not enough insulin, so we don't recommend that those cats skip shots.
