I don't even know where to start, we are about a month in on Kismet's diagnosis and treatment and the expense are causing panic. I have been trying to navigate online sites, but I am now overwhelmed by all the information. I don't know where else to go ... I don't want to have to give him away or put him down ... I have no job at the moment, paying for health insurance and now trying to navigate this. I'm going to have to sell some jewellery off soon.
Yeah, I am complaining, but I am also scared. Terrified. I love my cat. I want to be able to keep and treat him.

Welcome! Yes, this can be very scary, overwhelming and also expensive right up front. There are things you can do the help defray the costs. Here are some examples:
    • using a more economical insulin like Vetsulin (Caninsulin) or Novolin/Humulin
    • learning to test blood glucose at home so there's no need for expensive curve days at the vet clinic
    • feeding grocery store foods like Fancy Feast and Friskies pate versions instead of ridiculously expensive prescription food
    • buying glucose testing supplies at Walmart
    • applying for assistance with insulin and testing supplies from Diabetic Cats In Need (DCIN) - contact person here is @Chris & China
The learning curve is steep at the start and there's a lot of information to absorb. Take it a little bit at a time and ask any/all questions you have.

Please post on the main health forum and let us know:
    1. what insulin you're using and what dose
    2. whether you test Kismet's blood glucose at home and, if so, what meter you use
    3. his age
    4. what you feed him
    5. any other health issues/meds he has. :)
