Hi - this one might be more relevant for the UK/Europe members, but does anyone use Cosma gourmet tinned food?

Just seen it on ZooPlus and checked out the ingredients. It looks very similar to the Almo Nature that I'm feeding Bob, but is about half the price despite some quite "exotic" flavours!

    Thanks!

I haven't tried this (or rather my cat hasn't, lol) but if you think it's worth a try and it's a good price, go for it. The only thing I'd say is that it's not always clear on the Zooplus website whether some brands are complete or complementary... they may all be delicious and wholesome but you really want the complete food and the small Cosma tins I bought once were complementary. OK though if it entices a picky or poorly kitty to eat, or as between-meal snacks or treats.

ETA: another word used for "complementary" is "supplementary". The Zooplus website listing for Almo Nature uses the word "supplementary" so this food shouldn't be the mainstay of a diet really. I can't see any info on the site about the Cosma foods but I have a feeling they are also supplementary. Ditto Applaws, another one liked by a lot of cats.

Lol, I know what you mean - saying that some of the Almo Nature tins look more appetising than human food!

Bob is funny when it comes to food. His pre-FD diet was Carrefour's own brand "sensitive" sachets (prior to that it was their light version to control weight but they stopped making them). He's never been one for the big brand names.

So far he likes the Animonda Integra Diabetic range (not the salmon!) and Almo Nature. Tried him on Granata, Kattovit and Catz Finefood - didn't like any of them! I think it's because he likes the pieces of meat, not the pate. I can only presume Animonda is going down well as it stinks to high heaven (and makes him pass a lot of wind!).

Thanks for the heads up on the complimentary/supplementary word play - didn't think of that!

The Animonda one looks good and yes, sometimes a strong-smelling food is more appealing to cats, particularly as they get older and their sense of smell may start to become impaired. And it's a "complete" food which is what you want - I can't see any memtion of that on the Almo Nature product pages so I'd assume that this one is complementary/supplementary only so not a main meal.

I'd say AN is complimentary as its principally just like shredded chicken and tuna chunks.

Just taken Bob's BG and its his second reading below 20 today - things are moving in the right direction on Lantus :joyful:

It's not necessarily what food looks like as a complete food would just have the necessary vitamins and minerals etc, which are invisible! But yes that sort of appearance does usually mean that the food is more of a snack or a complement to a complete diet. I think Almo, Cosma and others are almost certainly complementary so keep an eye on these as you want Bob to be properly nourished. Diabetics are often more prone to infection etc and as we know, you are what you eat so a good diet is vital as part of the treatment.

Wow, yes - so much better numbers on Lantus, hope it continues.

Well the good numbers on Lantus are continuing... Just had a BG reading of 11.1 (9 hours since Bob had his one unit this morning). Now have to watch that he doesn't go too low!

This is amazing! 11.1 isn't far off a normal number and a huge drop from the 30s he was getting. Yes keep an eye on him just in case.
