I started TR yesterday pm. How often/ when should I be testing him? I'm new to this and can't figure out his BG numbers other than they seem to be all over the place and high. Also, as far as keytone testing goes. I know I'm supposed to test once a day. Should it be close to 24 hrs apart or doesn't it matter. i.e. I was able to catch him in the box at 9:30 last night. I could have grabbed on this morning around 8:00 but didn't because it had been less than 12 hrs since the last test.
I'll get the hang of this sooner than later. Lol

    Thanks
    ~Nicole

TR would mean you are testing before each shot - so AMPS and PMPS, as well as getting 2 tests mid-cycle. Once during the AM cycle and once during the PM cycle. Then use the weekends if you are working to do cycles and fill in some of the blanks you have.

Of course if numbers are low, you would test more often.

ETA - you signature says SLGS, so did you switch methods yesterday?

Yes, I did switch last night. Thanks for bringing my signature to my attention.
So, I can give my boy's ears a rest then. I always test pre shot and have been trying to get at least 3 mid cycle tests both am and pm.

I see lots of data there even at night!

If you can do that many tests, that is fantastic. If you feel he needs some rest, then yes, choose wisely on those 1-2 mid-cycle tests and let those poor ears heal up a bit.

As Tracey noted, the minimum number of tests is 4 -- prior to shooting and at least one test per cycle. However, with TR, you need to become data ready. What that means is you have enough test data to inform you when Diamond's onset and nadir occur and how much duration your getting. That doesn't mean you need to test every hour or two. It does mean that you may need to get more than one test per cycle especially since nadirs (the lowest point in the cycle) tend to move around because our kitties do not like to be predictable. You might want to look at other member's spreadsheets (SS). It will give you a feel for how often various people test.

Regarding testing for ketones, has Diamond had problems with ketones developing? If Diamond hasn't had diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or isn't prone to developing ketones, it's not crucial when you get a ketone test and probably only necessary until numbers come down providing your kitty isn't prone to developing ketones. It's helpful to get tests since it's the cheapest form of prevention you can do. Having your kitty hospitalized for DKA is very expensive!

Diamond has never had a keytone issue. I read on tillydiabetes.net during phase one you should test for keytones daily. If it's not necessary because hasn't had problems, that's cool.

I do think it's a wise thing to do while Diamond is sitting in higher numbers. Gabby had DKA at diagnosis and it was very expensive to treat to say nothing of it being a life threatening condition -- I was a wreck.
