Hi everyone, just switched my cat mickey from vetsulin to lantus last night. 541 pmps 1 unit of lantus then at +4 It was 386 seemed to be the nice steady drop I was looking for witch the lantus (he was bouncing a lot on the vetsulin) then this morning his amps # was 73. Is this normal for lantus?

Welcome! I am not familiar with Lantus so I'll bump your post and those that use Lantus will help!

Wow that's quite a drop especially for 1 unit. I'm no expert but keep testing regularly to make sure he doesn't go too low. Did you shoot this morn on the 73? Plus I might have run a second test to confirm the 73.

I did 2 tests 1st was 69 2nd 10 min later was 73 then I fed him no shot and he's back up to 383 +5 from his normal dosing time. This is my first experience with lantus, with vetsulin the lowest bg # was between +4 and +5. Maybe 1 unit was just too much for him.

Hello and welcome. I might try a 0.5 unit dose tonight. Some cats have an initial strong reaction to a new insulin, but it's easier to start with a lower dose and work your way up. But first, some background. Any issues when he was diagnosed with diabetes? Any ketones in the picture?

Just a quick question -- Are you using U100 syringes? Vetsulin is a U40 insulin and Lantus is a U100 insulin. The syringes need to be calibrated to meet the concentration of the insulin.

Do you have the U-100 syringes with 1/2 unit markings on them? And yes, it's not a lot of insulin.

Amps 261 1unit this morning now 134 steady numbers all day just not rising very fast late in cycle. This will be the 2nd shot in 2 days I have to skip, is it normal to have such steady numbers all day on lantus? I'm happy he's not bouncing but it's frustrating having to skip dosing so often this early

You don't have to skip his shot with a PS like this on Lantus but I'll leave it to the experts to guide you. And yes, these steadier numbers are typical of Lantus.

You can stall without feeding for 30 minutes to see if his BG rises to a higher level.
