Kitty was diagnosed last week, and based on advice I've received from another thread, I'm trying a food change before starting insulin. I thought it would be relatively easy, as she's been on Wellness for years due to an identified grain intolerance. She's accustomed to the regular pate/loaf twice per day (chicken, turkey, beef, and salmon) and free-feeding a measured daily amount of Wellness Core kibble. I had thought it would be an easy matter to simply wean her off the dry food and feed strictly canned, but based on what I've found here, I don't know if that's a good idea or not. For one thing, although the carb level appears to be ideal, the calorie count on the label is different from the numbers on the chart, which makes me wonder whether the chart was updated before the formula change. On top of that, the new recipe appears to have a problematic phosphorus level. I'd been hoping that the food change would be the easy part of this process, but now I don't know what to do. Has anyone had experience with Wellness?

Good morning ! I used to feed Wellness can to all my kitties until the new formula with its elevated phos level. I switched to Whole Earth Duck pate which you might want to check out . I can find it only at chewy.com .

Beth, our local Petco and Petsense carries Whole Earth Duck pate, Rabbit and the normal Chicken and Turkey...maybe yours does too if you have either of them.

Can't help with the Wellness, none of my crew ever like it.

What specific values are off and by how much? Note that the can labels give guaranteed analysis which are min/max and are in weight % when while dry Lisi's charge list protein, fat and carbs as % of total calories. In Dr Lisia's charte phosphorous is listed as mg/100 calories. I do not know how can labels list phosphorus,

Jones loved the Wellness Turkey until they changed the formula and then he didn't want to touch it.

Thank you for the information! I'm going to stick with Wellness until we can get into the routine of testing and shots, and then maybe consider a change.

Larry, it appeared that the calorie count per ounce was different, although the chart lists a 5.5 ounce can and I only had the 12 ounce cans on hand, so I might have just been doing the math wrong.
