@ceil99 , please be more specific. What's wrong with the food?
    Me, too!

Since you don't appear to be on the board any longer I will remove it for you.

It's different flavors and different numbers right now 1157 and the 1159s have been coming up the most. But There are more but we are getting in new info every day. We have only been running for 2 weeks now. Def stay away for ANY CAN that has a double stamp. But watch all the cats when you feed for any of the symptoms mentioned on the symptoms list...check out the fb group for all information on symptoms, what is being found in the cans and what cats are experiencing....https://www.facebook.com/Do-You-Have-Purina-Friskies-Cat-Food-Complaints-2120132014663932/

I don't feed Friskies but I will say that Facebook is not generally considered a reliable source of information. Take what you read there with a grain of salt.

this was a group that was started because there were tons of people experiencing same issues, so they figured they would put all the stories and pictures in one place as they contacted Friskies and filed complaints with the feds............:)

There were some posts here a while back about the food causing problems in their cats. Someone was trying to get more info from the company but I haven't seen any re posts about the food since.

holy caca! i should checked earlier, i knew something was not right, all my cats suddendly started regularly drinking water last weekend, i thought maybe it was because they got 1 tbsp of dr. elseys dry or because they got dewormed monday though. However i have also been dealing with one cat throwing up 2-3 times in a row at least twice a day about an hour after he eats and this was before deworming. Than 4 days ago tux threw up forcefully, he rarely throws up and hadn't done so in months. i decided it had to be the whitefish that i decided to start refeeding one can between 4 cats a day so i stopped feeding it for good this time but, yesterday, 2 other cats started throwing up too and all i am feeding is the poultry flavors with mixed grill and country dinner being ones fed the most. today, i woke up to a total mess downstairs, puke everwhere and even two small clear ones that left little red dots on papertowel when i clean it up, i though maybe it was blood from bones cutting one of their throat but, now i see it may be plastic or perhaps constant throwing up?? i did notice a dark layer on top of a flavor that don't usually have one when i opened two cans last night, i scrapped it off but, it didn't look like plastic..

went and checked, i have mixed grill and turkey giblet from poultry variety pack of 32 bought from target online that have double stamps and 1157. other cans in case are all 1157. checked the cases of mixed grill, country style and turkey & giblet from chewy i bought earlier this month (now that i think of it, cat throwing up daily started after my chewy and target monthly order) and all cans are 1157. i need to go read more, saw some cans have a pink mark and some don't, what does that mean??

saw fancy feast mentioned but, didn't see yet why. my little one eats fancy feast turkey and he has been fine on it so since i have 4 cases left going to swap everyone to it and up dr. elsey dry food till i figure out what to do. thankfully i actually gave 1/4 cp of dry food to 9 cats this morning after getting grumpy with the disaster spots all over house, guess that turned out to be a good thing since only 2 cans of friskies have been fed at snack time today! so for now i know definitely don't feed double stamped ones again.

sorry for long post, been venting some i guess. thanks for this thread ceil.

I just read through this thread but have not looked at any of the links yet but slyvie’s comment about her cats puking was a red flag for me! I have barf problems with FF sometimes. I occasionally throw a can of Friskies in the mix and probably have had one barf on that too. Two of my five are the picky ones and the ones who puke so I try to feed them Sheba. I know my post it probably premature because I haven’t visited any links yet but, thanks for bringing this to attention! I’ve started gathering supplements for making my own food. And have tested out giving partially cooked chicken thighs. Diamond loves it. The others, not so much but they don’t refuse. I need me a grinder so I can get cat food making! Sorry for the rambling. I feel the people on this site are the only people who get my cat craziness so I tend to go on and on.

nope i stopped completely after this thread (thank you again for it). i got 7 cases put away that i was going to dump out but, hubby said to wait to see if the 1157 lot gets recalled first. I temporarily switched everyone to authority, royal canin's sensitive wet foods and homemade turkey & sweet potato cat food i still had some of in freezer yesterday afternoon, only one minor throw up yesterday from cat who was really bad and one throw up today from one of the kittens with tummy issues, that's it...big improvement! gonna switch all the cats to the new American Journey wet cat food, if they don't like it than guess am going to have to make them like my cooking..

After reading this thread I became pretty wary of Friskies too. I did find some 1157 cans as well as double printed ones in my stock. I stopped using all suspect cans 3 days ago and I haven't seen any puking since. I honestly thought the one cat just had hairballs, since he's long haired and it's that time of year. For a week straight, I had woken up to the sound of puking. And to think changing the food may be what finally stopped it. : /

I had also found some small black flecks in the cans. Maybe it was just fish skin or something, but I'm not about to risk it after what people are saying online.

I'm giving the American Journey and Triumph canned foods a try. Tonight was the first can of American Journey and there was mixed reactions. They seem to like the flavor, but not the gelatin like consistency. Adding water made it somewhat more palatable.

I also ordered supplements to try the homemade recipe from 'catinfo.org'. I would like to feed them homemade for the majority of their meals, but there's a lot of cats in the house between my parents and me.

All 3 of our cats are eating Fancy Feast every day. They have not had any food issues. Except they do tend to like the chicken pate the best!

I just bought my fish oil (same brand from catinfo) at Walgreens. They are on sale buy one get one free. Plus, I used the Walgreens app coupons and saved an additional $1. Walgreens often runs a buy one get one or buy one get one 50% off sale. They carry all the supplements (different brand than catinfo) except I didn’t see taurine.

    -i buy this ground turkey
    https://www.samsclub.com/sams/lean-ground-turkey-5-lbs/prod20302398.ip?xid=plp:product:1:1
-i bought this supplement which not sure what i am going to use when i run out cause it is discontinued and my cats wouldn't eat the beef liver version still available and other brands seem to be beef too.
    http://mycatfoodstore.3dcartstores.com/TCfeline-PLUS--chicken-liver-720g--discontinued_p_39.html
-i buy this S&P and also its pumpkin version for an iccassional change
    https://www.amazon.com/Farmers-Mark...pID=51WGbOxBbFL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
-i buy this for extra taurine since i cook meat and cut down on tcfeline
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ENSLW5W/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

-i pretty much followed this cooking instruction to cook 2.5lbs of meat at time; http://tcfeline.com/cooked-meat/. later i would make 5lbs in large slow cooker.
-i than use the cooled excess fluid to mix half the recommended tcfeline supplement (my cats did NOT like the taste when i used full amount). unlike in instruction, there will be fluids left when meat is done cooking enough, if you cook till there is none, the meat will be overcooked and yuck.. add mix to meat.
-i added 500mg of taurine per 2.5lbs to supplement mix before mixing with meat
-i than added on half the can of S&W or pure pumpkin..thats it, pretty simple.

you can add cooked rice in and so forth for non-diabetic cat or for when you need a bland diet for tummy issues.. i put mix in 4oz mason jars, food freezed best that way to me. each jar i think was 160 calories for the turkey mix and when i used 100% grass fed ground beef it was 230 calories. More calories if i decided to add eggs with tcfeline mix.

don't try the american journey pates, that stuff is horrid apparently, everyone literally decided to starve themselves! the consistency is horrible, like smooth slimy/rubbery hot dog meat before it is cooked.. Dave's pate are a little better but, not loved like friskies was that's for sure and some cats are eating little of it. is the wellness texture more like fancy feast or friskies??

Because I too feed my diabetic cats Friskies and Fancy Feast, I Googled to see whether I could find any reference to this problem with these brands, and I couldn't find anything except the two sites mentioned here (Facebook and Consumeraffairs.com ) Per Wikipedia, the latter is not a nonprofit or a government agency: it is a for-profit dot-com. There haven't been any recalls (see https://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/RecallsWithdrawals/default.htm). And nothing comes up if I google "cat food" Friskies or Fancy Feast on news.google.com.

All of which is to say, I'm not sure we should panic. Online rumors do get started for odd reasons. If this is such a serious and widespread problem, you would think some enterprising reporter somewhere would have published this story, given the number of cat-lovers in the USA. I am not trying to disparage anybody's concern; but I am not sure that unverified reports on Facebook and consumeraffairs.com, should make us change food that we know has always been wholesome and good for our cats, in the past.

I haven't seen anything "real" out there either. I don't see anything saying there's currently a problem with either food. I asked Petco where I buy my FF and they said they know of no issues right now and it's all my cats eat... no issues here.

As far as you know, are 1157, 1159, and 1161, and any double stamped cans the only suspect lots of Friskies canned cat food?

And are there any other sources of information/complaints that anyone knows of?

I have just checked my stock of canned Friskies pates, about 2 cases from Chewy's, and every can has the number 1159 on it. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Does anyone know if all these cans of food are bad?

Sometimes my younger cat delays going for it but I supposed she was just tired of the flavor.
But my cats have not been seriously ill since I stopped feeding Young Again. I must have had a very bad bag of that dry food (for the second time as I'd previously got a bag with blue mold). I did report that and stopped using that product.)

It’s weird that Baby had some stinky soft poo a couple weeks ago. I just checked & one of my cans is 1157, double stamped & pink dot. I thought it was due to getting some Dr Elseys chicken dry food. Now I’m thinking it was that batch! I’m slowly giving her a few of the dry after tests for treats. The poo is better now?!? I had the one & I pitched it just in case. Never know.

@Bellasmom i hope your kitty is doing better. Sending prayers and vines for her and for you. What dose of thyroid meds is she on? I read a post in L&L once that said many vets start them on too high a dose and it can cause vomiting. :bighug: I’ll try to find the thread, but it was quite awhile back.

I don't use Friskies. But have been using Fancy Feast and Proplan. They are all made by Purina. The Proplan Beef and carrots was the only food my civvie Tux ate exclusively for 3 yrs. He would not eat anything else. Well now he won't go near it. I notice the color and smell is different. Fancy Feast turkey and giblets was a favorite for 3 of my kitties. Recently the food is very dry as if the company left the water out. Some labels on fancy feast have changed very recently. Purina is changing the foods again. The new labels read "classic pate" they seem to be an issue.

I have always mashed up the food when I put them in the bowl. There are reports of foreign matter/pieces being found in the food. Inspect the cans well, report, and take pictures. Purina has been denying everything and placating people with coupons (they have run out of coupons by the way). Complain to the fda, Purina headquarters, and your local news if you find foreign objects. There was a story on the news in early March, I think Ontario Canada where plastic was found in the food. When more news stations start picking it up is when Purina might do something. Here is a FB page that is dedicated to making people aware. Some issues go back a few years. Even the dry food has been found to have mold in it.

The it probably is the meds, stupid me gave her one this am but that was before all this started happening, there was puke all over the couch this am that had been there awhile, it was probably her from the pill I gave yesterday evening, she hasn’t been her very very happy playful self since I started the meds, I will not give tonight, thank you so much

Lizzie did not have problems in her medication. She was on 2.5 methamazole to begin with. Then upped to 5 mg a few years later. She did vomit clear liquid, foamy water on occasion. But she always drank lots of water & ate fast. She needed to eat right before bed as this vomiting was from empty tummy overnight. I did not give any meds for this, as she was a wildcat.
I know this is not the same as what’s happening now but just some info for thyroid kitty.

Not sure if you shouldn’t give any, you need to talk to your vet (I have no experience with thyroid meds in cats). Do you have a copy of his labs? If so maybe post and tag Marje. She would be glad to advise you.

Yes, that thread talks about all the issues my mom's old kitty had. We decided against the vet's advice to lower the dose and spend a week minimum, sometimes longer, at a dose before slowly increasing.

Maybe just a change in type of medication as with that high of numbers, she needs something to control it.

I used to feed our cats years back Friskies and other cheaper brands until I saw Authority Cat Food and asked about it at Petsmart. I changed because of the odor of their litter box but gosh never knew all of this stuff. Then it wasn't too long ago I read up on these cheaper foods and that they have alot of what is called Meal Meat which is from Dead Animals and other things being put in the food like by products. After learning of that I changed over to Nulo Grain Free. Now that my Vet wants Candi eating Purina Pro Plan DM Rx Canned Food I noticed alot of ingredients I didn't like in it. I am now wondering is it safe or would I be better off feeding her what I started her on a week ago Nulo Grain Free Canned Food.

I have been feeding my other cats the Cat Chow Naturals for quite sometime and recently they have been throwing it up. I had just bought a brand new bag too but I took it back. Until they get their stuff together and I know it is safe to feed this to them, I will be feeding another brand.

Booger's Mom check the ingredients. They have a bunch of ingredients that isn't good. We have had good results with Nulo Dry Food but now feeding Nulo Canned Food with Candi being a Diabetic. It is also very low in carbs. Along with that she gets some sardines in water and no salt added as well each day.

I've always noticed FF classic cans are inconsistent. One case will be very soupy other cases very dry. Some cases almost chunky and some very smooth. This is with all their flavors and as some have mentioned their turkey giblets especially is sometimes very dry. I've had to return whole cases because they won't eat it only to get another case of the same flavor and they love it .

I read the FB article. Not enough info was provided since only one instance of a dry food problem was reported to conclude it was Purina problem. The bags of dry food can be damaged/punctured during shipments and that can result in insects entering the bag.

Our Sparky's sugars started spiking recently and I happened to catch this posting. He did vomit once or twice over a 2 week period, but nothing major. NOTHING else has changed in his diet, etc. I'm wondering if this funky food is the cause of his wild blood sugar swings?

I'm pitching the last 4 cans and just checked our new Friskies shipment and it looks good. I hope his sugars start to fall again.

Baby isn’t eating her normal friskies mixed grill & poultry platter. It actually stinks, not like it should! She won’t eat much of anything... Ive purchased all kinds of food to no avail. She has 3 food bowls of wet food right now & won’t eat but a few bites. She’s also had diarrhea off & on but I don’t know if that’s from eating different things or from the first few bad cans of friskies.
Calling the vet to make sure there’s no infections or pancreas problems in the am.
Don’t know what to do, not a fish lover either.

I have been following them on Facebook and it is bad what all Purina is putting into the foods. Ceil I feed Candi Nulo Canned food. It is a bit pricey at 1.79 a can but at least I know it doesn't have anything suspicious in it.

My civvie recently stopped eating the poultry platter (Best by Mar 2020 80831157 L63741841 no color mark), turkey & giblets (Best by Mar 2020 80821157 L54051459 pink mark), and the mixed grill (Best by Mar 2020 80681161 L3363 2049 no color mark) out of the poultry lovers variety pack. He's been eating these for over a year now. I've had some cans with the codes and pink/red mark before that he ate with no issues.
Now he's refusing to eat them. Anyone have issues with matching cans?

How were you able to find out what went into the cans of Candi Nulo Canned food?

Our 3 cats still have not had any issues with the Fancy Feast classics. I always wondered exactly what goes into cat or dog food. Maybe the only way to viably know what our animals eat - is to prep the food ourselves.

I just went to the Fancy Feast pages. It's too bad Friskies has broken links there. One would think that Friskies would want to list the ingredients online like Nulo does. Someone on the forum typed in the Fancy Feast ingredients, 2 years ago -

I guess my 3 kittehs are lucky - we never saw a health issue with them that was food related. And I never saw plastic or similar stuff. I did find a little bug on some grocery salad mix once. I consider that a natural hazard of eating garden goods.

I have 2 Maine coon cats and have had problems with both of them constantly throwing up. Their diet has been Friskies Beef in Gravy, Turkey and cheese in gravy, salmon in gravy and turkey and giblets in gravy. On the evening of October 9, 2018 my female let out a loud yowl and threw up. Second time she threw up it was like a brown pudding substance. 2 days went by and she refused to eat acting normal drinking etc. but would not eat. Went to vet and found nothing wrong even had blood work done. After (9) days of refusing to eat the vet started her on rebound. She still refused to eat. The vet gave me a free can of HILLS to try her on. I came home placed some FRISKIES salmon on 1 side and the HILLS on the other. She sniffed the salmon but SHE ATE all of the HILLS and licked the dish clean wanting more. I started feeding her a teaspoon of the Hills every half hour and within 1 day she ate the whole can. Today she comes and asks for her small feedings.

Last evening I searched for any recalls on Friskies and ran across this site. When I read the 1157, 1159, and 1161 #'s I checked the cans I had. LOW and BEHOLD every one of my cans had those #'s, so Walmart here I come tomorrow.

My cat was clearly telling me the FRISKIES was not safe for them to be eating. She would have died before she would eat that FRISKIES. And before anyone asks, NO she is not vomiting after eating and neither is my male cat.

    Friskies is pure garbage..period.

Fromm, Health Extensions, WERUVA, Earthborn, Merrick, Fusse Cat so many decent foods. Stay out of the Supermarket pet section. Some FF will pass okay if that is all they will eat, but I only feed the Chicken Feast..period in the Fancy Feast.

Both Friskies and Fancy Feast have had problems for a long time. There's even a Facebook group on it. I only use the chicken pate and beef pate.

I have one civvie who his entire 5 yrs only ate ProPlan beef and carrots. He would not eat anything else. Then I noticed the color and smell changed and he stopped eating it. Purina claims nothing changed. I even sent them pictures of the color change. They still deny it. It took a lot of different foods to find something he would eat. He settled on fancy feast beef and sometimes the chicken.

I scrutinize the food when I open a can. I pull it apart with a fork and go through every bit of it to make sure nothing strange is in it.

I've been feeding Fancy Feast lately (pate) as a supplement to the YA, and even though I don't see anything when I am mixing the food with water and her supplements I sometimes see tiny bits of white things left in the dish after she eats. I've thought it might be bits of bone, but it concerns me enough to look for a different pate or start planning on getting meat/organs from my butcher to make something at home. I know when I bought ground beef in the UK there was sometimes noticeable bits of bone in it as I cooked and I don't like not knowing what this is exactly.

My diabetic kitty didn’t do well at all on Fancy Feast. I now avoid both Fancy Feast and Friskies
