I have taken many feral cats to get fixed and have their ears tipped. I always hated knowing they would have to get their ear cut. They would always tell me that it doesn't hurt the cat or that they don't have nerves in their ears. Ok, if that is the case, then why does Booger give me such a hard time pricking his ear?? I do not have anything to help me hold him while I do this to check his blood sugar. It would not be easy to prick his paw pad either. I am afraid that his ears will get bruised and sore from pricking them all the time.

Are you hitting the vein on accident maybe? That hurts more than the outer edge of the ear. At the end of the day I'll sometimes put some neosporin on my cats ears but she doesn't bruise really. Squeeze the ear for a few seconds afterwards. F572834B-0814-449E-8243-D57D088E8D78.jpeg

Thank you for this. I may be hitting the vein. They told me to fold the ear over and prick....... Got it. Thank you!

Probably the folding bothers him more than the actual pricking cats don't like their ears being handled getting them used to you handling the ear is usually the hardest part of the testing

Ok so the last two time I have checked him, I have pricked him where you said. The first time, he didn't fight me that much. This last time he did. I ended up having to prick him 3 times before I got a sample. Is there some sort of trick to calm him to be able to check him? Booger is normally a really laid back chill cat. He doesn't give the vets office any trouble, but me, yes.

Find a low/zero carb treat he likes and give one every tine you test, whether it was successful or not. You can also periodically rub/massage his ears throughout the day and give a treat for that too so he gets used to having his ears handled.

Do you take a couple of deep breaths before you start? Your anxiety can be transferring over to Boogie.

Yeah you are probably right. Booger may sense something. I feel ok testing him and giving him shots. Alot better than I thought I would lol. But there may still be a part of me that is anxious bc I am worried about what his level will be.

Talk or sing while you give him the shot. When I hold Chloe down for her prick, she actually starts purring.
