How much difference does it make where you inject?

Usually I do Jester in the neck - AM up above the shoulders, PM below the shoulders.

Last night he crawled into his favorite kitty bed for a snooze before I could give him his insulin so I decided to dose him in his hip. The vet had suggested it once as an alternative and a way to keep him from getting sore in his neck.

Just curious if anyone's found a difference in BG readings after changing the injection site.

I find the hip/side area seems to absorb the insulin better. The neck area doesn't seem to work as well, and results in slightly higher numbers.

I use the side of her body. Left in the morn & right at night! Just because that is where my vet taught me to pull/tent the excess skin. I don’t have anything to compare it with as far as numbers so... she never feels a thing but it’s hard to see exactly where it going for all her fur! I guess it’s more by feeling inside the tent.

Olive has long hair. I use a comb to hold the fur back and inject where you can see the skin.

I did try it once back when Jester's current vet suggested I use his hips instead.

Got the noisiest yelp from him I've ever heard and figured it might not be a good idea. This latest time went a lot easier, but he's not usually in a convenient position for me to manage injecting his hips.

Do you all wait until the kids are lying down? Or do you push them into the proper position?

Currently I inject him while he's eating.

I would shoot while Gracie eats and in the scruff. ECID and every pet owner dose things differently. Find what works best for you & Jester and stick with that.

I prefer not to maneuver Gracie. I like her to be in her "natural" position.

Yes I inject while he’s eating. It’s really no different from injecting in the neck once you’re used to it. Just have to come at it from a different angle. He doesn’t even notice anymore :)

It's really hard to say. Both of them are alive! Haha. Gracie doesn't like the room swap. You would think I was murdering her with the sounds she makes. Going to give it a little more time to see how it plays out. @Kris & Teasel

How the heck do you get your kitty into a kitty bead? Mine wants nothing to do with it. She just walks around it. Instead she uses the couch, bed, blankets pillows or a pile of clean laundry (or dirty) to lay on.

Well, Atty won't have anything to do with them either, but Sam's fine with that because it means he gets TWO beds. Atty prefers to sleep in the laundry basket.

Bastian doesn't much care for kitty beds and Sage will only bother with them occasionally - usually when she realized Jester likes them.

Jester's favorite is one where he can basically feel safe from Bastian bugging him. I love Bastian, but he can get *very* rough with Jester at times. (With Sage too, but for some reason - even de-clawed - she holds her own better with Bastian than Jester.)

Come to think of it, I've never really had that many kitty beds for any of my kids. I bought Jester's favorite on a whim back when I had Sandi too and neither of them paid any attention to it. Somewhere along the line Jester started using it and it's where I can usually find him when he's nowhere to be found.

Picked up two others at a fantastic sale at PetSmart - two beds for just over $10. Jester loves them both and Sage will sleep in one or the other of them to annoy Jester.

Tigress and Elektra like the same bed...they fight over it constantly. Oreo loves his bed but only if he thinks I’m not looking!

It took Baby a couple weeks to decide it was ok to sleep in the new square cushy thing?!? They just have to decide themselves, crazy cats. Maybe put something that has your smell on it on it a few days. She goes to bed early there or nap time. When I go to bed she gets in bed with me!

That's a great idea to put a familiar object with your scent on it! Sam drags all kinds of things into his bed with him - cat toys, dirty socks, my hairbrush...

    Funny story about kitty beds.

Before my current trio of Jester, Sage, and Bastian, my crew was Sandi and Jester (same Jester). My sister had given me a kitty condo for them and they took turns curling up on the top of it in front of the window.

I noticed that the surface where they curled was a bit hard so I pulled out a piece of cushiony material that they both liked to sleep on on the floor and cut a piece out to fit on the condo, stapled it in place, and waited for them to let me know how much more they loved the condo now.

The little stinkers looked at it as if I'd ruined it for them. Remember, the cushiony material was something they already were familiar with - the actual stuff they'd been lying on for years.
Took nearly a week before they finally decided to try sitting in the condo again and forgive me.

You never know! Baby reclines or kinda droops over this angled X shape scratch pad (corrugated cardboard) like it’s comfy? It looks so uncomfortable - why? Cats are sooo picky about their surfaces! Like do yours love to sleep on tissue paper? Baby acts like I’ve given her a million treats for tissue paper & a box to sleep in!
