Today was curve day but I’m a bit baffled by what I’m seeing. The numbers are not jiving with what I’ve seen in the past. Is this possibly a bounce reaction, or is it possible 2u is no longer enough for his AM shot? I thought we were on track but now I have no idea....

That sudden bump up into pink and then back down to yellow is strange. Could he have found some high carb food anywhere? It looks very much like a food influence.

That’s what I thought at first too but I can’t find anything that he may have gotten into....
*edit: he has been known to clean up our cereal bowls on occasion but none were left out today. Ugh... so frustrating!

I don't really have an answer. Does he get fed a meal around +5? If so, maybe it's an odd food spike. Maybe he's very sensitive to carb level even in the FF Classics. Grasping at straws here ...

He was very hungry this morning. He ate 3 cans between shot and +5 but that is not unusual for him. He’s always a bigger eater during the day than at night. Could be related to the FF but he didn’t spike as bad as this with the higher carb foods we just weened him off of... that’s the only reason I thought maybe it was a bounce... his numbers on the higher carb foods were better than his numbers on FF. Really wish I were a cat whisperer LOL

Some people do find that their kitty does better with slightly higher carb food - eg. 7-10% carbs versus 4% or less. You'd have to experiment to get good data.

Haha I guess there are no easy answers are there! I don’t think I’m ready to increase his dose just based on this curve (which is probably what the vet will recommend ), so I’ll work on getting more data. Thanks for your input!

So after a fur shot last night (accidental, I swear!) and the resulting lower numbers, I decided to drop his dose this morning. I wasn’t able to get any today in the pink times from yesterday but the rest look pretty good. Still keeping a close eye out and will increase by small increments as needed, but I feel a lot better seeing these numbers today. Now I just have to explain to my vet why we’re going off book

Vet definitely did not like that I chose to go off book with this. Oops! I feel a little bad cause we otherwise have a good relationship. She helped me out a lot with my very sick pup last year, so I tend to trust her opinions... but I really don’t feel like I called this one wrong. Lowering his dose seems to have helped him stop swinging so much. Obviously it’s still not perfect and will probably need a small dose increase. I just wish I could convince her that I’m not going completely rogue without good data to back it up..... sigh.......

I think the drop to 1 u is giving better numbers over all. Today’s are quite good. There’s a little room to drop and 1.25 u might get you there if you want to eyeball that tomorrow AM.

Yes I agree! I'd rather have him in yellow than pink any day. Tomorrow I will try 1.25 and see if we can get some more blues.

I gave it a few days to see if he would settle in at 1.25u but now I'm thinking his numbers looked better at 1u. His PS numbers suggest that I'm missing something once again... maybe I didn't give it enough time at 1u before bumping up..?

I'm thinking about dropping back down to 1u and see if we can get some lower PS numbers again... back and forth and round and round we go.... o_O

That 85 is a nice number but it was a big drop from PS. I suggest you go back to 1 u for a few cycles to see if that bouncing can be calmed down. It's possible you might have to try what we'd call a "fat" 1 u - ie., fill the syringe to a level just short of the 1 u mark on the plus side.

Its amazing how much of a difference such a tiny amount can make!

You'll never get a vet to agree though! ;)
