Hi Everyone! Have just added in turmeric for Akie's arthritis (1/4 Amazing Nutritionals Turmeric Chew a day), that I will give her along with a glycoflex3 chew, which I'm mentioning as the glycoflex3 has oils which are needed for the proper absorption of the curcumin in the turmeric.

    A few questions:
    (1) Do cats also get very smelly urine like dogs do while taking turmeric (some surmise this is 'cos of inadequate water consumption)?
    (2) Apparently dog owners counter this with ceylon cinnamon. Is that okay for cats, do you know?
    (3) This product has no black pepper -- I should add some, right? (easy to do as I have to wrap her chew in a pill pocket anyway)

Note that I'm not using 'golden paste,' but just these chews -- I don't want to give her more oil as she already has slight weight issues and arthritis.

    Thank you.

I’ve never used turmeric for my cat, but I think @Bronx's dad has

Bronx has been on golden paste for over a year now for his arthritis. Never noticed any weird urine smell. He gets 1/8tsp with fish oil 2x/day mixed with food. The recipe calls for black pepper & coconut oil for proper absorption of the turmeric. I don't use cinnamon, but If i did it would definitely be ceylon & not cassia but I have no idea if ceylon cinnamon is ok for cats long term. This group on FB will answer any questions you may have about turmeric for our kitties: https://www.facebook.com/groups/415313751866609/

Thank you, Sharon14! And much appreciate your responses, Bronx's dad. That's a great idea, using the fish oil for golden paste, since Akie is on Omega 3s anyway. Thanks, too, for the link. Will check it out.

Thanks, JanetNJ. Interesting: dog owners frequently comment on REALLY awful smell, which is why they resort to the cinnamon etc. Good to know this does not seem to be an issue with cats.

Got two responses from a Facebook Turmeric User Group I'd joined re the smell question, also confirming that there is no difference in smell with cats.
