With Jester (and the other furkids) getting used to my work schedule and adjusting his insulin based upon what's been happening daily, without being able to do mid-cycles, I thought a curve might be warranted.

I've been adjusting the AM dosage since, at first, Jester wasn't eating very much in the morning - generally not much more than half a can of food while his original dosage was 2U.
The new AM dosage was 1U, but his evening BG (usually at +11) hitting blue numbers, while still giving him 2U at night.
Since making that change, his PM numbers have been getting higher. Additionally, I stopped trying to get him to eat low-carb foods (he resists them and so far no "flavor enhancer" has made a difference) and he's been eating more in the mornings - today he about finished off a full can of Friskies shreds (carbs are about 14).
    Yesterday I started eyeballing 1.25U.

I know the standard is 3 cycles before a curve. Technically since he gets one amount in the morning and another in the evening, it seems like three cycles would be more like three days.

Does that sound reasonable? If so, Sunday would be his curve day.

However, in order to get the full "effect," so to speak, I would need to not feed Jester throughout the day until the time I normally would feed him during the week. Otherwise, I won't get a true accounting of what goes on in his body.

    Thoughts?

Sounds reasonable to me! I think a curve would be a great idea to understand what's going on and see if we need to adjust insulin at all. It'll help you feel better at work too with a general idea of what goes on during the day.

I do think that 3 cycles would still just be cycles though. Basically, even though he gets different amounts, his body only needs that bit of time to settle in to it...you don't have to double the time due to the doses being different. His body gets used to one dose in AM and another in PM in the same amount of time. Does that make sense? I'm not sure I'm explaining it well today. :)

It makes sense. I'll still likely be doing it on Sunday though. I may go out for a while on St. Paddy's day. ;)

I don't relish the thought of Jester begging for food all day though. He can be *very* insistent.

And he *will* beg if I'm there and he's hungry. The only solution is to not be around except when it's time for his BG since he's started to associate the tests with eating.

Maybe it's time to clean out the basement.......

    Slight change of plans.
This morning I decided to do a modified curve - every three hours for about 18 hours to see what happens for most of the day, including the 2U in the evening.

First two tests are done. And Jester is now very upset because he's hungry - +6 was 105 - and I need to withhold food for at least three to four more hours to simulate what goes on while I'm at work.

Right now, at least, I'm feeling reassured that 1.25u in the morning seems okay. Although that may change when I take his +9.

When you have a chance, could you look over Jester's numbers from today?

I'll have two more after his PMPS. But if today was a good representation of how things go for him during my workday, then I'm pretty okay with his current dosages.

He looks really good! The info you get tonight will be helpful too, but my guess is he's going to be looking pretty good then too!

I'm pleased with it. His PMPS was on a two-hour fast which is likely what sent that reading up so high.

I think I've noted before that he seems to get better readings on a three hour fast. But he'd already been fasting for almost as long as my usual workday. And I didn't want to make him wait any longer to eat.
His next +3 will also be a two hour fast. But if I can keep him from eating after that, I may do a +5 instead of +6. Then he'll get a late night snack before bed.
