    Good Morning L & L ~

Bubba surfed in the 50's for a few hours last night. Of course today he had to give me an almost green start :p

Forrest is still slipping a bit and I have order Zobaline B -12 for him and still peeing out of the box! This morning it was up against the wood baseboard right in front of the powder room where his LB is as I was getting up at his request. :banghead: I sat him outside on the snow covered stoop. The brat.

DH has plowed us out of our foot coverage. Come on July!

Vines to all Beans and Kitties in need.

If you squint that is a green start for Bubba. I hope the B-12 will help Forrest. Sorry he peed on the baseboard.

It could be possible that the enema and such caused a UTI...something to keep in mind. Also, when my civvie, Frankie, was having constipation issues, she peed outside the box, too. I think it comes from overall discomfort with elimination - gut pain and all that.

Vines galore for you all. And good of dh to do some snow shoveling.

We lucked out with less snow this time but it’s very icy slippery instead.

Good surfing Bubba and hope Forrest resumes in-the-LB routines. Did vets do u/a?

Several almost green starts today. Cats.

I hope Forrest feels better soon and the zobaline helps. I agree with Amy, the peeing outside the box issue is probably related to the consitpation, I hope it clears up soon. :bighug:

Good point Amy about the box being associated with pain! I never thought of that.

Why would an enema cause a UTI?

I will keep an eye on things.

At least Bubba is behaving himself during this Forrest issue - hope it resolves very quickly, Bobbie.

I don't know for sure if an enema would cause a UTI, but just thinking in general about how UTIs happen...bacteria traveling up the wrong pipe, so to put it. Just guessing that it is remotely possible for an emena to cause "misplaced" bacteria, since various kitty "openings" are so close together.

Most of the time, kitties are trying to send a message that something isn't feeling right when they pee outside the box...of course there are some rogue kitties who do it just because they can, but most of the time they're trying to tell us something.

Thanks Amy, I just put a call into the vet. You could be onto something. She did say that his something about his kidney values being "concentrated". Prior to me taking him into the vets on Monday, he had diarrhea that was making it around the stuck hard poop and he was a mess ! So it's very possible that some bacteria got into the urinary tract.

Interestingly, Asia's UTIs were after scooting incidents. I noticed a correlation and asked the vet if either scooting could have caused some poop to get where it doesn't belong or if my wiping after scooting incident could cause this, she said no to both. I completely disagree.

It may not be a UTI at all and still be related to the constipation incident. Just having pain when using the litter box could make them associate the pain with the litter box and cause a temporary aversion. Any inappropriate elimination I think they are trying to communicate something. Unlike so many other things cats obviously do just to be jerks, I don't think peeing and pooping outside the box is one of them. ;)

He has a 4:30 EST appointment. It could be a response to not going outside, but then when I sat him outside this morning after his inappropriate pee and he did not leave the stoop. Vet said maybe the LB is too high for him with his hind legs not being right, but he is jumping into a laundry basket to sleep in and the sides are quite a bit higher. so, it very well could be pain association and she will feel to see if the constipation has resolved because that could be causing him discomfort still. Thank God for a Care Credit card!!!

Poor Forrest. Hope you figure it out. In the meantime to protect your baseboard and walls. Get a shower curtain(s) from dollar store fold to size you like. Put under box with some of it going up the baseboard. Use Magic Scotch Tape to hold in place. I also just taped a puppy pad on wall where box is (only box near a wall) normally mine are in the open. Use Magic Tape to keep on wall. If I have not keep this particular box in place I'm going to get the removable hooks and the use binder clips to hang puppy pad from. Not the nicest decoration but gotta do what you gotta do.

Forrest's vet visit. I took him there hoping for her to get a urine sample. Doesn't he let loose in his carrier as soon as I got him into the car???? I ran back inside to get a syringe to see if I could extract some urine into the syringe. I was not very successful, needle broke off and I only got a few units of urine.

Here is what we know so far:

He is still constipated, some harder fecal matter again. They gave him Sub Q fluids again and did another x-ray.

The x-ray this time showed fluid around a kidney. She doesn't know what this means. Maybe cyst? I asked about cancer and she said usually the kidneys would be enlarged. His are not.

He lost a few more ounces since Monday's appointment . But, she did say that the weight on Monday was prior to the enema and retrieving 6 hard pieces of fecal matter which could have been easily the few ounces he lost.

His hind legs are still sliding out from under him intermittently. It seems like when he tries to turn around quickly that it happens.

Here are the Vets recommendations for now:

She is not sure how these things relate to each other or if they do. We could be dealing with several issues.

She has referred him to a Internal medicine vet and to have an US at that facility. It will be provided on 4/3 for the US and the IM vet consult.

She gave more fluids, recommended a lower sided LB ( although he jumps into and out of a laundry basket in the basement with higher sides than the LB)

She wants to start him on Clindamyacin 75 mg. for suspected toxoplasmosis. Uncoordinated gait is one of the symptoms. I always thought GI issues were symptoms but she said not always. He does has intermittent episodes of vomiting too which is another symptom. Unfortunately, they or none of the pharms in my area carry that strength so I have to wait for a compounding pharm to mail to me and that will takes several days.

If the inappropriate urinating outside of the box is from a UTI the AB will target that. As of Monday's BW and urinalysis he did not have any infection and or crystals present.

    To be continued.......

Thanks for all the prayers !

Be careful, toxoplasmosis can be passed on from kitties to humans...

Sounds like a good plan in place, even without a definitive diagnosis, the antibiotics can knock out several possibilities. Sucks you have to wait for the mail to get the antibiotics, but hopefully when they arrive they will work quickly. More vines to Forrest! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am careful to wash my hands after scooping the LB. And when handling the raw food. Although vet thinks it is more likely to be from an infected rodent he could have eaten. Just another reason to have indoor cats.........ugh.

Glad you are careful Bobbie. I read up on toxoplasmosis and discovered it is zoonotic so continue to take precautions and maybe keep Forrest and Bubbs separated until you have a firm diagnosis?
