Does anyone have any experience with this monitor and how to code the Freestyle Lite strips for cats? Supposedly, this monitor does not need to be coded but I want to make sure that I am doing things correctly if I decide to buy these strips instead of the AlphaTrak 2 strips. Also, does anyone have experience with using the Freestyle Lite strips with an Alpha Trak 2 monitor? These are the same strips made by the same manufacturer.

I just bought some yesterday for my AlphaTrak2 and tested the same drop of blood using both strips. I didn't change the code from the original strips. The two ratings I got were 4.9 from Freestyle and 5.1 from AlphaTrak strips. So pretty close.

For both of you what was code for the AT strips and what was code for the FSL strips?

38 for AT2 and there's no code for FSL.

I am surprised there is no code for the FSL strips. I use an Easy Gluco which is self coding and each vial of strips does list a code and when I insert a strips the code is displayed on the meter for a short period of time.

Ah, you're right. The code on the bottle is 16. But the code displayed on the meter when I put the strips in is the AT2 code.

I was advised by others in this forum not to use the Freestyle Lite strips with the AT2 meter (I forget by who but it was a few who have been on this board a long time). I thought they said they were no longer made by the same company but I could be mistaken (but there was a reason). Either way, I got a free Freestyle Lite meter from Walmart when I bought the strips so I use the Freestyle Lite meter now with the matching strips to be safe.

I would use the FreeStyle Lite with the strips but I am not sure how off the readings are compared to the Alphatrak 2. I will probably get the FreeStyle Lite strips soon and test it out. I do have the FreeStyle Lite meter that does not come with strips lol. I also have the Alphatrak 2 which is what I am currently using but $44.45 for 50 strips is kind of rough especially when I am checking Boogers blood sugar level at least 4-6 times a day.

So let me ask you, Booger just read at 370, should I still give him the 3 units?

Yes, stay at this dose. You need to look at the low BGs to properly assess the dose. The recent blues show a good drop but still in a very safe range.

I use the freestyle lite strips with the alphatrak meter. I occasionally compare the reading between the two types of strips using the alphatrak meter and they are very close. Also using code 38.

I may look into getting them off ebay because that price is way cheaper than the $75 for 100 freestyle lite strips that I pay.

I read a lot of the old posts on the group about them before I decided to buy some. They used to be from the same company but now they are not. They look completely identical.

I can't tell you whether they are the same strips or not. When I've tested with them and then used the same drop of blood with the alphatrak strips, both in the alphatrak meter, I get very similar readings.

I always keep some alphatrak strips on hand just in case I get a weird reading, really high or low, that I want to double check. I only became a member a few days before you so I'm not an expert by any means.

In my understanding, Zoetis is now making the alphatrak strips. Maybe it's just a branch of the Abbott company

No, Zoetis is an independent Animal Health company
    https://www.zoetis.com/
There may be a licensing arrangement between the two to allow Zoetis to manufacture the strips. The strips really have to be the same as Abbott strips since they are used in the same meter.

From what I can see, the Alphatrak, Freestyle Lite, and Freestyle Insulinx are all the same strips but the Insulinx are the cheapest.

The Freestyle lite strip box says the same thing. Says to only use them with the Freestyle Lite and Freestyle Freedom Lite systems.
