Again this morning! Usually miss one of the 2/day. I’ve read extensively, watched videos...I’m flunking my first week of this. :banghead:

my cat is long hair too and his skin matches his greyish undercoat color so it was a hassle for me at first too.
only help i can give you is tell you how i handle it; i part what hair i can on an area on his side, pinch & pull up skin/fur with one hand (sometimes i will lightly wet down fur when his hair is staticky), i stick needle into fur/skin downwards at an angle between my fingers, i then gently move needle to the right & left so that i can feel it against my fingers which helps me know needle is indeed inside skin and not in fur..

Bella’s mom...thank you so much for the chart...the rest of you also, the responses! I think I tried too far down in front.
I’m sure it was a fur shot...after rubbing my fingers over area I could smell insulin on my fingers ???

I had fur shot issues for the first few weeks.

I rarely have issues now even though I can't see her skin most of the time. With practice I started getting a feel for what a good shot was.

Me too but everything I’ve read it says high is better than low. It’s not ideal, but...
That chart on this thread is one I’m saving to my phone. Huge help. I was too low toward her leg today

Uh oh. I would go pick up a human monitor if you dont have one already. I would keep one for backup. Its better than not having one at all.

That’s true. I take her back in tomorrow to vet. I made that appointment so we could compare monitors when I was going to use the Relion. I kind of hate to keep it, although it was only $30 with 100 strips

I don’t have any lancets, they’re coming with asvocate monitor. I bet the ER would have some huh. There’s got to be some somewhere in this hospital.

I’m so dreading that. Gretchen is getting to know when I’m coming in (I separate her feeding in a closed room while she eats from other 2) she fought a little this morning, then got still for me and I missed anyway :woot:

You can pick up lancers from Wal-Mart or any drug store.

Just checked booger after not having insulin for 24 hrs due to furshot and after giving him 1.75units and he was 71. Fed him some food and waited 45 minutes and checked again he is 42! Gave a little Kato and some gravy fancy feast. Hes coming up. Hopefully he will stay up or this is gonna be a long night!

This Relion meter is a piece of JUNK. I had PLENTY of blood and the dang thing didn’t do a thing. I did everything correctly. I am SO frustrated. I’m not jabbing Gretchen again.

You are dipping it into the drop so it can sick it up like a straw, not shopping it on top of the test strip, right?

I have no problems with my relion prime, I will say at first I did only because I was t doing it right, I went from advocate to prime cause those strips are soooooo expensive and you just can’t go out and buy them you have to order them so make sure you don’t run out, practice on yourself with the relion if you have to I did a cpl times

Does he tolorate the poke pretty well? I was taught to put the needle in and let go. If it stays put it’s in and you can go ahead and inject. Perfecting it helped for those times Smokey got an attitude about it and tried to get away. He walked away with the needle swinging in his shoulders a couple times! But at least I knew it was in!

These are what I’m using for now until Friday, then I was going to order from the site everyone recommends. Sorry for late reply, I never saw this.
I have been doing a lot better.

So, is Gretchen's fur up to 'solid gold' status with those fur shots, or has it reached the 'platinum' level of rarity? Gretchen probably thinks it's some sort of odd smelling spa treatment you are giving her.:p

I used one of those short needles and did not like them. Those needles are shorter than the cats fur, so more difficult to make sure you aren't doing 'fur shots'.

    HI!!
    Deep breaths :bighug:
The beginning is the hardest pat but soon it will be 2nd nature.

I am a groomer and if you find a groomer in your area that is cat friendly they can shave a spot that won't even show by lifting the hair on the Maine -- it will be hidden when it flips back down. I have found the belly a good spot too and you can have a belly trim too. ( when I do this it takes very little time you shouldn't have to leave ):cat:
