    Hello.
My 14 year old senior cat Rain is diabetic. She lost a tooth last week. Then her ketones spiked. I rushed her to the vet. Due to finacial struggles, I could not afford a hospitail stay. The vet proceeds to tell me to put her down. Yes, she was dehydrated. She didn't eat for a day because of mouth pain. I got her fluids and antibiotics. That was the longest weekend. I syringe fed her.On Monday i took her back. Bought her fluid to do my self. The week has been a rollercoaster. She eating and walking around. Then just stays in her bed and won't eat. She is also not moving her bowels regularly. Her test say she has enzymes in liver . High w blood count and low thyroid . I love her! I dint want to be selfish if she is in pain. But I wanted to at least try to make her better. Do I puther down? When do I stop trying?

Reason for edit: Added the GA (Gone Ahead/Guardian Angel) prefix to honor Rain

Hi Jodi, I’m so sorry you’re having so many problems with sweet Rain. You can contact Diabetic Cats In Need (DCIN) they can often help with treatment. Is she eating now? You need to make sure she gets food (use syringe if needed) and insulin. The lack of food may be the cause of the liver problems as well as the ketones. I’ll tag a member that is working with DCIN. @Chris & China

What insulin is she on? Are you home testing her glucose or for ketones?

Keeping her hydrated, feed, and bg lowered is the best thing you can do. Please test ketones at home... If they read above a trace go back to the vet immediately. Ketone strips are inexpensive and can be bought at any pharmacy. Are you testing the bg at home? Did she get any antibiotics for the tooth? Does she need a dental?

Yes , I test her. The levels are all over the place. She is on Lantos insulin. Received her results on vm. I keep calling vet. I haven't received a reply. I had her down. Her ketones level was at 5. As i gave her insulin. It climbed all over again. It's Sunday human society is not opened. I can't afford er care.

DCIN has authorized her to take Rain into the ER and get the exam and bloodwork.

    We'll go from there

I want to thank everyone. You gave me the best advice. I found my way to dcin. I'm at the vet now. They want to keep her overnight. I will keep everyone posted. Many blessings to all. I'm grateful to everyone that responded.

What is at 40? Her glucose? Are you using world measurements rather then us numbers?

Rain is very sick. She has fluids in her abdomen. They think it's her pancreas or and heart. Vet says she needs intense care for a while. I want my cat to be happy. I love my friend enough to know it's time to let go. Thank you dcin.
