    hi all
I wonder if some of you remember Rosie from two years ago? She went into remission after a few months on caninsulin and a change of diet and everything has been fine since. That is until this weekend. I noticed an increase in her water consumption and checked her bg (must admit I hadnt for a long time) and it was 20. So off we went to the emergency vet who diagnosed an ear infection so gave antibiotics, a small dose of insulin and sent us home with ear drops. I must admit he wanted to keep her in but I didn’t want that at the weekend so we came home.
Five hours after the insulin her bg was 3.4 which worried me a bit so I watched her and she was fine. I had hoped that once the antibiotics kicked in her bg would come down but unfortunately it’s still at 20 so we are waiting for a call from the vet to see where to go from here. I’m guessing he’ll want to take her in but I’m sure I can manage her at home. There are no ketones in her urine and I know how to test her bg, give insulin and what to do if there’s a hypo. What do you think? Xx

No reason for her to stay overnight. Let the vet check her for any other causes.

If it turns out she's out of remission at least you know what to do this time around.

Thank you Janet, that’s what I thought but just looking for reassurance I guess! Think I was really convinced I’d not have to do this again but just shows that they are always diabetic. Hopefully, it will just be while she gets on top of the infection but if not we’ll deal with it xx

Mine was in remission for a week shy of a year and then out of nowhere the numbers went up in September. It's a bummer so I know how you feel. I've found it harder to get her back into remission this time around. The first time only took four months.

Just a quick update. Vet rang, Rosie doesn’t need to go in she just has to go back on 1/2 unit insulin once a day for now as he feels she’ll go back into remission once she’s ovr the infection, we’ll see.
I tested her bg and it was still at 20.6 so I’ve given the insulin and Ill check again about 8 pm. I’d forgotton the ordeal of bg testing and injecting until you get used to it, my friend was here so helped me but usually I’m on my own.
Nice to know there are people here I can talk to, thank you xx
