I was so very worried this evening as my cat Ciara would not eat or drink all day but now thank God at 1 am UK time she has finally eaten
She had been hiding away all day
My vet told me to miss her insulin injection at 10 tonight if she did not eat and i did that
However she had a poo awhile ago that was very skinny and had some blood on so now i am extra worried that she has another condition in her bowel
    Will tell the vet

    Thank you very much
She ate well yesterday and had her two injections but again this morning will not eat so no insulin she is hiding away again.
I fear there is something else wrong with her seeing vet on Monday anyway
I saw some liquid drops stuff advertised online for cat diabetes and wondered could we trust the reviews as it seems to be a miracle cure.

    u very

No not drinking either but not too worried yet she ate a good lot yesterday after not eating the day before so she may just be too tired

Do you have a vet appointment booked? I think a good going over by your vet is what she needs right now. She might needs meds for nausea, poor appetite, etc.

Ciara had no injections on Sat due to not eating at all then she ate late last night and this morning so I gave insulin this morning
She seems much better in herself today but i dont think she ate enough this afternoon and evening to have another injection so i have left it again i am just way too scared of a hypo.

Are you checking her for ketones? With her not eating well and missing shots, it would be a good idea. Hope she feels better and gets her appetite back soon!

Thank you i do not even know anything about that i have not been told by my vet
In the UK i dont think anyone home tests even for blood
Today she woke me up for food at 7.30 but i was very tired so couldnot stay awake to see how much she ate and Puddy was here so could have eaten after her even though he had his own
She ate a very small amount at ten am and seemed very bright and happy legs were very good too
She is now sitting in the grass in the garden it is a bit long but she loves that.

I’m glad she’s better this AM! We have several UK members that can give you some info on testing blood as well as ketones. I’ll tag a couple for you. @Diana&Tom

Hi Stella @Stella and Ciara ,
Is it today that you're taking Ciara to the vet? Hopefully the vet may find out what is causing her health issues. (Fingers crossed).

As Sharon suggested above it would be a good idea to test Ciara's pee for ketones.
It's an easy test, just a matter of dipping the end of a ketone test strip into a drop of cat pee. Crumpling clingfilm over a litter tray is usually a pretty good way to catch a sample, and you only need a tiny weeny amount.

You can get the test strips, 'Ketostix' or 'Keto-diastix' from most pharmacies.
Ketostix test only for ketones. Keto-diastix test for both ketones and urine glucose. The latter may be useful at the moment as you are not yet able to test Ciara's blood glucose (much more accurate and useful than testing urine glucose). Keto-diastix cost around a tenner for a box of strips.
Anything above a 'trace' ketone test result means you need to contact your vet, ASAP.

Be aware too that not all ketones can be detected by the strips, so also keep an eye (or rather a nose!) on how Ciara's breath smells. It should smell like typical kitty breath. If you detect a smell like 'pear drops' or acetone that could also indicate ketones.

Most of us here test our cats' blood glucose. Some UK vets still find that idea a bit odd, but it really does help with managing diabetes. It may sound a bit daunting at first, but it is not difficult to learn, and shouldn't hurt the kitty at all. If you'd like to learn we can certainly help you.

Please do let us know how you get on at the vets.
    Good luck! :bighug:

    Hi Elizabeth
Well i moved the appt to Wed afternoon as Ciara had missed 4 injections since last Wed when i saw the vet and her number was 19
I thought it would not have moved much with so little insulin
Ciara seems well today thank God
Will go at 2.30 on Wed but will buy the testing kit you mentioned for the urine before then
Thanks for all of your help

    Hi Stella
Just catching up here and read your posts... I don't have much to add to what's been said but ref your query about "liquid drops stuff online" - sadly I don't think this is a miracle cure at all. I've seen the ads and the product does look very promising but in reality it is likely to do very little. One of our other UKers tried it with no effect so sent it back!
I think all you can do atm is take this one day at a time. Eating issues can be difficult to resolve but see what the vet says about other issues related to the diabetes maybe which could be a factor in the bigger picture.
    Good luck!
