Can a bounce be high too

I don't know what you mean by high. Bounces by definition are the result of going lower than they are used to, or fast drops. This means dumping sugars into the blood stream and making the numbers go higher. Neko, in the beginning, used to bounce over 600 when she first saw low blues and greens. And that's on a human meter so much higher than those reds Kendra is giving you. I think she is bouncing, but can't tell why with the data you have.

Are you planning a curve soon? It would be good to see how low this dose is taking Kendra. Getting a before bed test at night will also help with that. I think she needs an increase, but not positive without more data.

You need to set your alarm, as we all do..........It's hard on our bodies but it's not for US, I've been setting my alarm every 2 hrs until I see him starting to drop........

I heard of the PJ party (as in pajamas) but even 4 yrs ago never did it but it's part of the routine when apparently we're up every 30 min. all night when reducing our kitties, haha - that's one I don't want to do, besides I don't have PJ's!

I had plenty of pj parties with Max. He liked to drop at night. Any chance you can change your shot times? I assume the answer is no due to work but thought I’d ask. Another thought might be to switch to lev as many have a later nadir, for some at preshot time. I only used lantus but thought I’d throw it out for thought maybe when you need to reorder insulin.

A lot of kitties like to drop lower at night. Since your shot times are so late for the PM cycle, either set your alarm and get a +2 so you know how active the cycle will be ( if the +2 is the same or lower than the PMPS it could be an active cycle) and/ or drink a large glass of water so you will be up later to grab a test. Those yellow PMPS are when you really want to get more data.

Is it possible to change your shot times by 30 minutes each day where you could grab more test? Would that help your schedule at all? Just a thought.

I think you can go ahead and increase to 7.0 units. You should be evaluating the dose every week if you are following SLGS, and increasing if she's not getting into the numbers you want.

Most people here use human blood glucose meters instead of the AlphaTrak, primarily because the AT test strips cost so much. Our dosing methods are written using human meters too.

Looks like you've been at 7 units longer than a week now and she's still not getting into normal number range. I would increase to 7.5 units now. Good job on the testing, by the way.

The AT's do compare closer to the labs, though my vet used a Onetouch human meter she really liked because it too was close to the lab values. However, our dosing decisions are based on tests we do each day, not the lab bloodwork values. And our dosing methodologies use human meters. So unless your vet is looking at the spreadsheet regularly, you may find it easier to get/cheaper, to just use a human meter. My vet told me to buy a human meter, but each vet is different in what they feel comfortable with.

Thanks for check up I kinda feel she likes pet meter. But she said she hasn't had a cat ever on this much insulin i just started cutting her steroids from a 1/2 everyday to 1/4 every other day gonna wait a wk to see if that helps before I raise her AGAIN ugg

Cats need as much insulin as they need. We have one cat here getting 59 units per shot. He has a high dose condition called acromegaly. You might want to talk to your vet about getting Kendra tested for acromegaly and IAA (insulin auto antibodies). Those are two high dose conditions that we recommend people get testing done for once a cat is over 6 units. My Neko had both conditions and got up to 8.75 units. Acromegaly is caused by a benign tumour on the pituitary glad sending out excess growth hormone. One in four diabetic cats has this condition.

Kendra is still spending a lot of time in high numbers. I wouldn't wait longer than normal before raising her dose. I would raise it now. These high numbers are hard on her kidneys. Reducing the steroid won't make that much of a difference.

The conditions are checked via a blood test. Your vet draws blood and sends it to Michigan State University.

I haven't got test done yet I will it's just hard on her she has to get knocked out every time mobile vet comes seems she is doing alto better i mean still high but good averages i think 8 will bring us to the 200 n she does great when she is in that range

I just checked your spreadsheet. I don't have specific expertise in high-dose conditions, mind you, but it looks to me that if you're not getting away from the pinks you should be raising this dose faster than you are, not staying at a dose that is clearly not working for so long. I'd go to 8.

Hypos are dangerous, but high numbers are damaging and DKA seems to kill cats more regularly than hypos. I think we should bear that in mind.

With those numbers I'm definitely not worrying about hypos, but about glucose toxicity and ketones. Glad you were able to test for them!

Great! If 8 doesn't show improvements within a few cycles I wouldn't wait ages to go higher.

In the grand scheme of things, these are not really low numbers. I would get another test or two before shot time and I would post here if you are concerned about shooting.

I'm wondering if there's a bit of confusion about the suggestions people were making regarding PM tests. You said your shot time is at around 10:30. Whatever time you go to bed, can you get a test before you go to sleep? That may give you some clue as to whether Kendra's numbers are dropping.

Also, in the future, it's best to start a new thread. Anyone opening this thread may think that this isn't a current discussion given that this thread started months ago. Most people open a new thread daily.
