One of my civvies is very sick, he has some different health issues, but at this time he has a problem with his bowels. On Sunday morning I woke up to him in his litter box all hunched over, I did not know if this was because of him trying to pee or poop. This went on for a long time, I got afraid that he had a blockage and could not pea, with this being Sunday and no vets open, I took him out of town to an emergency vet. When I got him there they ran a lot of test, that were very expensive and told me that he had no problems with his urine but with his bowels. I was told to give him 1/4 tea of Miralax 2 X a day, which I started that night. Well to make a long story short, this week he has had 2 enemas, he is either constipated or he has loose runny stools and he also has a urinary track infection. He will go to his litter box and pee just a drop, go back to lay down and then it starts all over again. He did get Baytril yesterday, he had a dose last night and this morning and his bowels are still very runny. Now he will not eat, so I am looking for the recipe for Liver Soup. I hope someone can help.

My cat is constipated or his stools do not come down and then after an enema his bowels are runny, then he is running back and forth to the litter box. he had an enema yesterday and his vet told me to give him 1/4 tea of miralax once a day, but he is not eating and even if he was I think I would wait. Thank you, for replying. Any suggestions.

I think you can give the Miralax more often. If it's really impacted the runny stuff could just be the loose stuff squeezing around the blockage. Did they give an antibiotic for the uti? Is he eating at all? A little pumpkin (teaspoon) added to the food may help too. Hope he feels better soon!!!

When Shakespeare was alive he used to get constipated all the time. I used to give him the vitamin B12 pills everyday and believe it or not...it worked like a charm. I cant tell you how many times he would try and try to go, or start going and it would get stuck...as soon as I gave him the B12 pills he would go to the bathroom right away,,,,good luck!

The doctor at the emergency vet, told me to give him 1/4 tea of Miralax twice a day, that made him dripping liquid poop. On Monday he saw his regular vet, who gave him an enema, then we saw liquid poop again. On Friday she gave him another enema and also realized he had a UTI, she gave him Baytril for the UTI. The thing that really bothered me, was he would get in the litter box and try to do something, then get out, lay down for a minute, then go back to the litter box. He was not eating this morning, so I was looking for the recipe for Liver Shake and could not find it. I went out and bought some things for the shake and after I got back home he started eating. I did not make the shake because he started eating, but I am glad to have the receipe.

I went out and bought some things to make the shake, but when I got back home he had started eating. I am glad to have the receipe. He seems some better this afternoon, he is still having some liquid poop, but not running to the litter box as often.
In February 2018, he had his right eye taken out and it turned out to be cancer, in March he had a torn ligament in his left knee (he still has) and now the poor fellow has this.

I hope he's better soon! Maybe remove the 911? We like to keep those for immediate life-threatening emergencies, so they make people freak out when they see them.

My civvie once had a really bad UTI and Baytril worked great. The vet also gave him a very small dose of metacam for two days. It's not a popular choice for cats but he was in so much pain he cried when trying to pee. Blockage was ruled out. They have better choices for pain if you have to use one.
My civvie gets constipated too and for him, acidophilus probiotic works well. Miralax gave him liquid poo so I had to look for other options. He never had it as bad as your kitty so maybe wait until he's over this episode and look into it then if you're interested.
Glad your kitty is eating again. He sure has had his fair share of health issues! Healing vines sent!

Maybe cut it down to 1/8 of a tsp twice a day. Try pumpkin.

Yes take the rice out....I couldn't get Doc to eat it if I put the Kelp in it. Remade it without it, he ate it fine then. It does have lots of good stuff in it so wish he would have eaten it with kelp...

He was laying on the cement floor in the basement last Sunday morning next to his litter box. He would get out of the litter box and then turn around and get back in, each time he would leave a small wet .spot. I thought that maybe he had a urinary blockage, with no vets open on Sunday in this town I took him to a 24 hr. emergency vet out of town. They ran many test (cost a lot) and came back and told me he had no urinary track blockage, not even any crystals in his urine, but he did have a lot of poop in his bowels that had not come down so he could pass the poop. That is where the constipation theory came into play. The emergency vet told me to give him 1/4 tea of Miralax twice a day. When I got home on Sunday evening I gave him 1/4 tea of Miralax. On Monday morning he was still straining, with nothing in his litter box but small wet spots. I loaded him up and took him to see his vet, who by that time had received info from the emergency vet. She gave him an enema and he passed poop. She told me to go ahead and give him the 1/4 tea of Miralax, 2X a day. By Tuesday morning poop was running out of him, his vet was not in so I stopped the miralax. On Wednesday morning when his vet came in, I took him to her and she gave him fluids and a 3 day Bupe injection. This continued on with his straining, until she was in on Friday.
On Friday she took another X-ray (had many in the course of this week) she wanted to do a cystocentesis to check his urine. Sure enough he had cystitis and still a lot of poop in his tract. She did another enema and sent him home with Baytril for his cystitis. He now is not straining as much, but straining some, his poop is still not formed and runny. His vet had put him on appetite stimulants and told me to give him any thing that I could get him to eat. I did not expect him to eat on Friday, but on Saturday when I could not get him to eat, I thought that I did have an emergency if he did not eat. I had made the Liver Shake before, but I could not find the recipe and I was scared of what would happen if I could not get him to eat. I don't think I have ever used 911 before, but I was afraid if I did not no one would answer me. I wonder if he truly had bowel problem or if one was caused by the meds and he had cystitis all along. He does not have as many little wet spot in his litter box, but still has loose poop. With this being one of many problems he has, I hope he can come out of this alright. Thank you, everyone for the recipe.

I have a cat who gets constipated and vomits, on a regular basis. I give him 1/8 tsp Miralax twice a day, it's not enough to give him runny poo but it keeps things moving, and I mix an extra 2 tablespoons of water in with his food at each meal; Miralax draws moisture from the system to help it work. It's also a good idea to give a little extra water if kitty had diarrhea, as that can be very dehydrating. :)

I have always given any of my cats who were constipated 1/8 tea. once a day and I can see two times a day like you do, but I think 1/4 tea. two times a day, is too much unless you have a serious problem and that is what the emergency vet told me to use. Head Butts to Squallie , Mom and kitty with the constipation. Hope your kitty with constipation is doing alright today.
