    Poor Mo!

All results are now back and his Spec Fpl came in at 22.6 (ref range 0.1 - 3.5).

We saw the vet an hour ago and she has given him an injection of Convenia antibiotic and more Famotidine, plus an ongoing antibiotic - Veraflox Oral Suspension. Hopefully that will help the Pancreatitis.

The diabetes will be treated starting tomorrow evening with Prozinc Insulin and syringes - not sure on the dose yet and I need to collect that tomorrow as it has had to be ordered in - we went with the cat specific insulin as there wasn't much in it cost wise. (The other one they offer is Caninsulin).

I am going to change his diet back to wet food - I feel guilty I had him on all dry, but I honestly thought it was the way forward with his sickness - Mo will be pleased! Going to start a transition from tonight.

The vet is happy I home test, but doesn't know a lot about it - the nurse who took us through the injections and how-to's does have a diabetic dog but advocates doing a glucose curve every two weeks - I'm in favour of more regular testing so will get my head around that and buy the necessary stuff.

Can anyone point me towards where I'd find info on the correct readings I need to obtain via a human testing meter? I already have an Accumeter but it's quite old so I'll buy a newer one if needed as I'm not sure what size sample it needs and I need new test strips.

    Many thanks.

    Sue

Vet just said there were two insulins to choose from - Caninsulin which was suitable for both cats and dogs, or Prozinc which was made specifically for cats.

There is also Lantus and levemir insulin. You might ask vet about them. Lantus is very effective and popular in treating cats. If ordered from Mark's Marine pharmacy it is very cost effective compared to getting it in the states.

What wet food did your vet recommend? Mine was also diagnosed with pancreatitis as well about a year ago.

pancreatitis is very painful ...I know because i have had it!I really hope your vet gives Mo a painkiller...! I believe it goes away with proper fluid and nutrition but in the meantime the pain is an issue...just my thoughts/experience...well wishes to little Mo!
