Girlie had an enema yesterday - HUGE poo afterwards! - and I'm beginning to think there's a connection between her numbers (at least her AMPS numbers) and constipation. In addition, it seems that when she eats more (usually due to the Mirtazapine), her numbers are also better. I gave her Mirtazapine last night, so she ate food throughout the night from the timed feeder. I really think that's one of the reasons why her AMPS was so nice this AM: her brain was just wired and eager to eat because of the drugs.

Regardless of the cause, it's nice to see a green AMPS again! :)

Isn't that an interesting possible connection! I like that AMPS :D, glad the timed feeder is working!

Exercise also brings down BG, even if the exercise is just getting up several times and walking to the food dish, really!

Thank you for being so excited on my behalf! I've been wondering that myself for a while, because her numbers have been so, so good with only the occasional hiccup, but apparently she has to have the green AM and PM PS numbers even if all of the other numbers after PS are green. It's a bit frustrating, to be honest. Yesterday's AMPS was - to me - so clearly connected to her not having had a poo for six days. Maybe I just have to make permanent arrangements with the mobile vet to come every 4 days to give her an enema and give her Mirtazapine every day for two weeks to earn the right to have an OTJ trial! :p I don't know...

I have to find that link again re: going off the juice. The guidelines are all green numbers or only the occasional blue. Sigh. It is what it is, I guess. Certainly no one's suggested that she's ready to even think of a trial yet.

She had higher blue numbers back around 28 April, but she was hugely constipated then, again: she was able to pass a small piece or two, but in a bad way. Again, she had an enema and then went back to the lovely low PS numbers again. I think for Girlie, poo plays a big factor in her AMPS numbers for some reason. I'm sure someone out there has a logical explanation for this! Then again, maybe it's just a cat thing... :cat:

Given her arthritis, even that type of exercise is not exactly a moment filled with joy for her! Still, she does go out to the verandah to lie in the sun, which is really good to see. :)

if pooing or not pooing causes her some pain , then it's a definite possibility it's having an effect.

There is a condition for cats called Megacolon.

I've asked the vet about that, and the tests don't indicate Megacolon as far as I know. But I could always be wrong!

Girlie isn't quite ready for a trial. The AMPS numbers are typically the last to fall into place so if you're on to something regarding the food-numbers connection, that may move things in the right direction. Don't rush a trial. You kitty will have greater success if her pancreas gets as much support as possible prior to a trial.

Thanks so much, Sienne! I appreciate the advice. If I could only get her to get out of bed and eat some food three hours before her shot, that would be great, but she's not so inclined most of the time, I'm afraid... :)
